The_Next_Big_Thing
No Pdub, huh? Even if Pdub comes back from his injury at 110% like TJ did, it's not enough to justify his salary. There are young guys who can fill in for him, and they come cheaper and allow us to do more in the off season next year by not worrying about resigning him if he does have a stellar season. kingwilly
So ML says Landon is the MLB and....now it has been noted, and many here think, Thurman will be MLB...I wonder."The early word out of Cincinnati is that second-round pick Odell Thurman is everything the Bengals thought he would be. Thurman, who came to the Bengals with some off-field baggage, was a star last week during the team's minicamp. As one Bengals coach said, "Odell Thurman is a bad ass." Thurman is expected to be the starter at middle linebacker. First-round pick David Pollack will play an outside linebacker spot next to Thurman. Pollack takes over for Kevin Hardy, who was released this week. Pollack will be making the move from college end to linebacker. If Pollack and Thurman are as good as the Bengals hope, their defense might be much improved. " off nfl.com

That said, many on the coaching staff wanted Thurman in the first round, and Marvin Lewis gave it the veto. However, when he was still there in the second, he allowed it.You don't draft guys in the first round to sit the bench, so if they wanted him in the 1st, you gotta think they were planning on playing him. derekshank
Show me proof ANYONE actually wanted him in round 1 and I might believe you. http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8429360/2The Bengals strongly considered taking Georgia linebacker Odell Thurman in the first round last week, but Lewis was against taking a kid with character issues that high in the draft. Some inside the building pushed for Thurman in the first round, thinking the kid wouldn't be there. The Bengals took Georgia defensive end David Pollack in the first round, then were lucky enough to get Thurman in the second round. At that point, he was worth the risk. Thurman is expected to play middle linebacker for the Bengals. The staff was thrilled to add a player of his abilities. They think his off-field issues are nothing more than maturity problems. If that's true, and this kid is on the field as a rookie, he might be on his way to being the heir apparent to Ray Lewis as the best middle linebacker in the game. "He has that look," said one team's linebackers coach. My assumption is that CBS didn't just make it up, but on the other hand it might have been reported by Dan Rather... you never know. I dunno about P-Dub. WR is pretty crowded and for the $2+ mill P-Dub would be getting and the lingering issue of his injury, the signs (including the draft) point to his release. I'd like to see him in stripes another year because a healthy P-Dub should make the offense that much more dominant this year.Kooistra is an odd man out. He can't go to the practice squad and he doesn't have LT on his resume either like Kieft does. But Koositra has stuck so far and Kieft can be placed on the PS with the risk that he'll get plucked by another team like last year's 5th rounder. It's likelier that Kieft sticks and Kooistra goes but I'm guessing Kooistra comes out knocking hats hard enough to force a tough choice one way or the other. Wouldn't look too good for somebody, though, for a 5th rd O-line pick not to stick. No doubt that factors in Kieft's favor but if he just hands-down outperforms Kooistra, then Kieft is the 9th O-lineman.As for Wilkerson, I'd guess he's placed on the physically unable to perform list before camp starts, which would make him eligible to make the roster midway through the season. Re-signing Braham next week would clear up some of the questions about the center position. And yes, Marcus Wilkins should definitely stick. Keeping the special teams unit largely intact should be a priority as good as they play and Wilkins is a big part of that.

Some inside the building pushed for Thurman in the first round, thinking the kid wouldn't be there. I remember Ricky Hunley (LB coach) saying soon after the draft that he was pushing for Odell but knew that #17 was too high a pick to use on him. It's hard to imagine anybody being a bigger supporter than the guy's future position coach, unless it was Mike Brown carrying a flame for a golden boy QB. But hey, if somebody posted it on the internet, it must be true.

vman1186
Don't count Warrick out. He has experience in the system. If he's healthy I don't see why we should cut him. His cap number isn't outrageous, and there's only one year left on the contract. Plus he can play the slot better than a lot of other receivers. The question isn't whether or not he's healthy, its whether or not he has fully recovered his quickness (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3584960). Plus, what we would we do with the extra money? Unless he has a terrfic season I don't see him back next year, but assuming he can still play, I say keep him. Remember Marvin's motto: "Keep your own." ( Also, I believe Lewis and Co. have decided that the path to sucess is going to be threw the air on offense, so the WR position will be made a top priority from now on. )
