schweinhart
http://www.bengals.com/press/news.asp?iCur...=0&news_id=2897Sounds like the 2007 uncapped year is being put out as a reason for cutting somebody. Cutting the Natester would be about a $500k cap hit before June 1 but that could be recouped by cutting Hardy before June 1.There could be a reluctance to cut the free agents who have been signed since ML took over. Understandably so, given that keeping them for the length of the contract shows an on-the-level commitment to them. Plus, it shows other would-be free agents coming in what they can expect. If they get any extra cap savings through cuts and don't troll the free agent market, I hope the Bengals give Steinbach an extension over the other O-linemen. jjakq27
I wonder if they would cut Hardy before June 1 and save the cap hit next year and then re-sign him at a lower salary? I don't know what would be in it for Hardy other than the fact that he would still be employed. It would save the team some valuable space and keep Hardy around just in case or to at least be the starter early in the season. Just a thought. It sounded to me like the Bengals are looking to make a cut -- say Hardy and/or Webster -- to eat the remaining pro-rated signing bonus this year by cutting before June 1. Otherwise after June 1, they would dump the amount into 2006 without the option to dump some other hit after June 1, 2006 into the following year because that cap feature won't apply without a cap in place in 2007.Best I can tell, that means the cap hit from cuts with pro-rated signing bonuses in 2005 and 2006 would all get stacked in 2006, which would add up and proly limit free agency activity.
