On PTI just now, they just said that Monday Night Football is moving to ESPN. And Sunday Night Football is moving to NBC! Yes, NBC! Both will start in September of 2006. This is VERY surprisng to me. I can't believe they aren't leaving MNF on ABC.

If your a football fan...there's a lot of history behind Monday Night Football and ABC. I'm pissed off too that we didn't get a Monday game, but this is still a big deal that all that history is going to be changing. But, hey, this isn't starting until 2006, so we will be playing in the first MNF game on ESPN (the game with the Super Bowl champion from the past season) :D:D .

Tradition or not, it's time to move on and hopefully make the product better -- it's been second rate for some time now.

Couldn't care less what network agrees to overpay for NFL football, although thinking about MNF without John Madden is rather appealing. What I found interesting/funny was after following the link reading about "Desperate Housewives" having an impact on the decision making of NBC. Sheesh, them towel dropping gals have sure played hell on the folks at MNF, haven't they?

Turn out the liiiiiigggghhhtttssssss, the parties over..........

What I'm most interested in is the flexible scheduling:

The Sunday night games will start at 8:15 p.m. ET and include flexible scheduling for the final seven weeks of the season, details of which will be developed by the league.

That issue has become more pressing since parity caused by the salary cap has resulted in teams moving up and down the standings annually, leaving bad teams that were strong the previous season in prime time and good teams that were bad the past season off of it.

No complaining about not getting a prime time slot next year -- we won't even know what half of them are!

And of course it means that if the Bengals are playing for a playoff spot, a better chance they will get one of the prime time games!

I have been reading rumors where ESPn will start with their own hand picked guys. I've been reading that it will be Berman, Steve Young, and Jim Rome. I'm a huge berman fan and I think Steve Young is OK so I would like it. The three on Sunday night is even worse than Madden and he's just too old to do it anymore.

That sounds like an odd combination of people. I've always enjoyed Berman in the studio but just listen to him doing a baseball game on ESPN and that should convince anyone not to put him on Monday Night Football. Same for Young. OK in the studio butI don't know if he has that much to offer in analyzing a game. And for Rome, I think his radio show is OK but I haven't seen him on TV recently. Are they bringing him in to be the street-smack talker to appeal to the younger crowd?

I think they need to get some guys that can just call the game. Schedule some good games and the rest will take care of itself. The pretty boys (Boomer) and the comedian/eclectic types (Dennis Miller) should have taught them a lesson a few years ago. They shouldn't try to force it into being something more than a game.

I will vomit if Jim Rome is a football announcer.

I sorta figured Miller was headed to the ashcan when he chose a Sylvia Plath reference for his opening remark on MNF. You could almost hear the entire country scratching it's collective head.

As for Boomer Esiason, I think people felt his act had grown tired the moment they figured out that regardless of the matchup, the score of the game, or the time left....Boomer would always find a way to talk about himself.

You're making way too much out of this than what's really there. Rome is NOT a play by play guy, nor is he an analyst and the experiement of non-football color guys is doomed. Therefore, you will not see Rome. Now settle down.

Also, heard that Al's contract with ABC runs through the 05-06 NBA season, and Madden's goes through the '05 season while his agent said every option will be explored. Since both contracts would be completed before the '06 (when changes take place) season, I guess any and everything is fair game.
