Btrester151
17 (17) Bengals Alex Barron T Florida St. Traditionally the Bengals have selected the best player available, and Barron fits that bill. While coach Marvin Lewis hopes to improve his run defense here, Barron could be a franchise tackle who can replace aging veteran Willie Anderson and line up opposite Levi Jones for a long time. Barron, huge (6-7 1/2, 320) with outstanding athleticism, excels in pass protection. He must adjust if called upon to play right tackle because he isn't a great run blocker. What do you think? jjakq27
I keep hoping for a game-changer or difference maker on defense. I don't know if that kind of guy is available this year. This would be like the Levi Jones pick in 2002. It's not glamorous but it would be a solid pick. The downside is that this would be the third year in a row where their first pick would not be counted on to contribute right away (unless Willie gets hurt). Do we have that luxury?
Btrester151
Thats what Im saying, Didn't we draft andrews with the hopes of him being the future replacement for Willie?I wonder why there is never talk of the bengals "trading up"? How many fourth round projects do we need on this club? The way i see it, we can trade up 5 or 6 spots and get one of the top defensive players in the draft, and all we have to do is maybe trade our first and fourth. We have all of the projects that we need. WE NEED PLAY MAKERS!We def don't need a back up offensive tackle that wont be able to start (and that will take up First round cap money) for 2 to 3 years when we already have a pro bowl tackle.btw, its good to be posting again, I check the board regularly but don't post alot. Its good to be home...lol

Do we have that luxury? Not a luxury if the goal is WIN NOW.Barron IMO is a project at LT in the NFL and not the best RT for run blocking. If he slides down to 17, I hope they just let him keep sliding.
HairOnFire
I have a hard time screwing up much emotion over the pick made in any mock draft, and that's especially true when the mock features only the 1st round. That said, in this example my first reaction is the same as it would be with any offensive selection....initial disappointment that the pick is used on offense for something like the 6th time out of the last 7 picks. ArmyBengal
TSN mock draft ?? Didn't know The Shopping Network did those !! Have to say if Barron is there at #17, the phones will be ringing...WHODEY !!!
TippCityRick
Ringing phones at 17 would be music to my ears. Trading up is not gonna happen. As Skyline said, there's too much even talent to trade up. If we move down even 10 spots we'll get a player many project in the Bengals range. Picking up an additional second would be a dream come true this year.
