O'Dwyer signed with Tampa Bay last year and was expected to be the starting right guard. However, the 10-year pro suffered a pectoral tear while lifting weights in the offseason and played in just four games with no starts. The former Northwestern star took a physical exam during his visit with the Packers last week and the team is confident O'Dwyer is ready for training camp. A second-round pick by the New York Jets in the 1995 draft, O'Dwyer has made 122 appearances (105 starts). He has also started all 16 games in five different seasons with the Jets, Cincinnati Bengals and Buccaneers. O'Dwyer was a member of a Bengals' line that paved the way for Corey Dillon's then NFL-record 278 yards rushing versus the Denver Broncos in 2000. Baltimore Ravens back Jamal Lewis later eclipsed the mark with 295 yards in 2003 versus the Cleveland Browns. Green Bay lost starters Mike Wahle to Carolina and Marco Rivera to Dallas earlier this offseason. Last week, the Packers signed former New England backup Adrian Klemm to a two-year contract. jjakq27
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8324151Veteran guard O'Dwyer follows opportunity to Green Bay March 24, 2005SportsLine.com wire reports GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers signed veteran guard Matt O'Dwyer on Thursday to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum $765,000. O'Dwyer's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Tuesday that an agreement was reached on the one-year deal. O'Dwyer will receive a $25,000 signing bonus, but his entire deal will count just $455,000 against the salary cap because of a veteran's exemption. The 32-year-old O'Dwyer missed all but the final four games last season with Tampa Bay because of a chest injury. He also played for the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals from 1996-03. O'Dwyer will have the chance to compete for a starting job because of the departure of guards Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera in free agency. The Packers signed New England free agent LG Adrian Klemm last week.
