Skilly McRailnob
The biggest story coming out of the safeties' workout Tuesday involved Thomas Davis. Davis will need to move to weakside linebacker in the NFL after weighing in at 230 pounds and running a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash. He should still be a first-round pick, but his stock is likely to slip because of concerns about his needing to make a position change in the NFL. He did play a season at OLB in college, and his best bet (in terms of his draft value) would have been to remain at OLB for his final year at Georgia.http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/draft05/colum...&CMP=ILC-INHEAD
chrishcovga
Davis moved from OLB after suffering a series of injuries. Once he moved to Strong Safety is when his college status sky-rocketed. a 4.61 in the '40 isn't necessarily a slow time for a Strong Safety. Most of the Strong Safeties this year timed around the high 4.5' all the way to Jamaal Brimmers 4.8 so that's not really to bad a time on a notoriously slow carpet. The real knock on Davis will probably come from his ability to cover, something that none of the Strong Safeties do well in this year's draft class. What Cincy' may have to do is get one of the bigger Free Safeties like Pool, Butler, or Atari Bigby ( who actually ran well ) and move them to Strong Safety.
