Who is the Best QB in Bengals History?

Strange, a Bills fan replying on the Bengals board to another Bills fan, but often overlooked, and in all fairness deservedly so, the Bengals had a young gun many years ago by the name of Greg Cook, who hadn't he hurt his arm, could have been something truly special. That kid could throw the rock.

With that said, Kenny Anderson had some longevity, consistency and played some solid football. Yet, Boomer had some very good years too. Could be a toss up, but I'd give the edge to Boomer.

Some great players have suited up for the Bengals over the years, how about Mike Reid, Bill Bergey, Bob Trumpy, Issac Curtis, Lamar Parrish, Anthony Munoz (possibly the best LT of all time), Chris Collinsworth (a darn good receiver in his prime), Eddie Brown, James Brooks, Ickey Woods (short career though), and let's not forget the undersized but ungodly tough Tim Krumrie.

Just checked the Bengals voting for their all-time team. Seems that your fellow fans may disagree with that. When Boomer was on his game, he was down right scarey and was also one of the best play action QB's I've seen. Kenny was a bit too much of the dink and dunk, which was especially annoying back when he played because the only one who dinked and dunked more was Tarkenton, who was a great scrambler with a less than average arm, yet he did get the most out of his abilities.

While I'm not fond of pictures in posts, your avatar is.....wow.....and despite not liking pictures in posts, that's pretty special as well....

I would agree, so tell me why did the kats let Boomer go to the Jets anyway? I mean surely its not because they thought Dave Klingler was the best QB in the league when they drafted him.

Boomer is from Long Island and had a chance to play for his boyhood team, also. Please Bruce Coslet became head coach of the Jets and Boomer had great success when BC was the OC here.

Greg Cook was the best QB the Bengals ever had. He wasn't the greatest because he got hurt too soon and didn't have the accomplishments, but if you looked at all of them on the field, he was the best in ability. He was absolutely sweet.

Ken Anderson was the greatest. He was showing it when he still had lousy lines. I was on the field with a rack of timp-toms when he broke his back against the lions. I remember him almost getting decapitated against the Steelers. He took the abuse and kept standing in the pocket long after lesser quarterbacks would have developed permanent happy-feet. Anderson was the prototypical West Coast Offense QB. Bill Walsh modeled it off of things that Paul Brown had done, and Anderson executed it with surgical precision. Anderson could beat you with his feet too. The only drawback with Anderson was that sometimes you wanted a more outwardly guy to shoot the impossible pass in a narrow hole, and Anderson was a very methodical, stoic guy.

Boomer was a numbers guy. Yards and points out the wazzoo and lit up the board when the pressure was off, but choked in the big one.

Carson Palmer reminds me of Greg Cook. He also reminds me of John Elway (someone will scoff), in that he has shown the ability to carry a team. John Elway lost a bunch of Super Bowls that the Broncos would never have gone to without out him before he won one. Palmer can carry a team, and has done so. A couple of the games that he blew with interceptions would have never been a contest without his previous heroics. Palmer is big, can take the hits (as long as they don't take out his knees), can hurt you coming out of the pocket - as he does this more, the Elway comparison will be more evident, can make all the throws, and most importantly, he's a guy with fire that doesn't worry. If Palmer stays healthy, he'll become the greatest QB in Bengals history - he's a natural.
