jjakq27
For anyone out there that wishes/thinks we should have kept this guy, think about this. He missed the last four games of the '01 season with a back sprain and missed the entire '02 season with a separated shoulder. Going into the '03 season, Marvin had nothing to go on except his reputation and most of the defensive coaches had been replaced. I don't have a problem with Foley being released. And he is playing in a 3-4 defense in San Diego. That makes a difference too.
The_Next_Big_Thing
I always liked Foley, and I'm glad to see him doing so well. Lamont Thompson is also a former Bengal having a good year elsewhere.
kevnz
Both guys not designed for this system. Foley could play, he just didn't bring the speed that Marvin wants or needs for this system. Good for him.

LABengalsFan09
Maybe an upgrade physically, but not mentally or as a leader. Hardy is very valuable in that sense. Next year though, will we see Nate Webster in the middle flanked by Brian Simmons and Landon Johnson?!?!?!?!? That could be disruptive!!! jditty47
hardy should just become a 3rd down dlineman in the future, after this year of course. hed be awesome at it

kevnz
Na i think Hardy is gonna be cut in March. That would be shocking cause he's such a locker room guy....He was the defensive captain last year...I think he'd restructure his deal to stay here
chrishcovga
Marvin Lewis had plenty of years to see Steve Foley in action. Foley wasn't moving fast enough and ML didn't think Foley was buying into what he was teaching, that's why he got cut. * For the Record, Our run defense was better with Steve Foley on the Strong side. We held teams to an average of 3.6 yards a carry while he was healthy, and since have averaged about 4.5 yards a carry. That's a Huge drop off since his departure. - Foley couldn't play the pass though, and never saw the field on 3rd down unless he was being brought in to play as a speed rusher. All in all, you can't just be athletic to play LB , you have to have smarts as well, so Hardy had him beat easily on that one.
jjakq27
Hardy also had playoff experience with the Jaguars.Foley hasn't played a down for the Bengals since the 12th game of the 2001 season. That's three full seasons. I think it is a non-issue as far as what Foley could be doing for us. I will take my chances with Landon Johnson.
