Pat's Missing Top DB's

Defensively - Pats have about as many different subs and situations as the Colts do. Only difference, Pats receivers aren't as good as Colts receivers. Defensive line has to play like it did against the Steelers, WE need lots of pressure and must eliminate Corey early!! - Win the time of posession , and we probably win the game. Force the running plays east and west.. Run Blitz early and often.

Match their substitutions. Pats will bring in speed guys like Bethel Johnson to force favorable underneath matchups. More man on Man coverage on the WR's and double the Tight Ends and Backs out of the Backfield. :player:

Pats do got the substitutions to match Colts and I'd say more at WR w/ Troy Walters out this year. Givens and Branch both showed they are of the same kind of money in last year's Super Bowl run as David Patten showed he was in the run up to beat the Rams. Now all 3 of them dudes are healthy and they'll have Troy Brown back on O (0 rec. in last 2 games and 4 in last 4) AND Bethel Johnson (even though he's only got 8 catches on year. he had a 20 ydr last week and a 47-ydr 4 weeks ago).

Definietly go man vs. pass but James is gonna have trouble hanging vs. WRs as fast as these. Terrell Roberts, be ready again. And let the Silent Assassin roam the field like a MFer. :P

yeah but James is a ball Hawk this year, he will have trouble so i;m hoping for zone situations. i think james could blanket brown easily.

I'm hoping O'neal and Ratliff will gamble some and get 1 or 2 game turning picks.

If Frazier or ML crutches on zone for this one, the game will be over at half. Zone does not work vs. Pats because they run WRs 2 at a time at same man then split on timing patterns. Brady will annihilate Bengals if this happens.

Tory can cover Brown but the rest of the matchups could force some DB assignments out of the norm due to speed and patterns of Pats WRs. IMO Tory would be best suited as the dime back in this one because Branch, Patten, and Givens are likely more than he can handle. I'd like to see Keiwan start w/ O'Neal, Madieu to CB from safety in nickel, and Roberts in at FS in nickel. That seems to me to give Bengals better chance to maintain as much man coverage as possible.

Pats secondary has definitely been disrupted w/ the likes of Troy Brown and Earthwind Moreland forced into action.

Even if Samuel and Poole can come back, the Bengals pass game has to be the focus of gameplan because Pats run D has allowed only 67-189 in last 4 games (avg. about 17-47 per game). This is vs. Browns Green, Jamal-less Ravens, Priest-less Chiefs and Bills McGahee.

Maybe Rudi has a little more success vs. Pats but it's Air Carson time for this one. Blocking has to keep LBs off Palmer for more time to throw.

were playing the 3-4, i think we can just keep pounding it up the middle on em.

then get to the LBs 3-4yd runs are fine it will keep the lbs honest and hopefullly eliminate there constant blitzing..

anyways Bratkowski did really well game planning vs the steelers Rush I think Carson will handle it with great success.

Well, we face the Steelers twice a year, and we know their tendencies (Running attack) so its not much of a suprise to see us play them well.

And the Patriots have a much better offense than the Steelers, even pre-Dillon.

Brady spreads it out better than anyone in the league (aside from Peyton) I believe, so our LB's and DB's will have their work cut out.

Tory is having his best year ever, leads the league in interceptions, and you are saying you want to move him out of the starting lineup and make him a dime corner?

You really are stupid.

Keep Madieu at safety, keep O'neal and James where they are, and deal with it. It's worked so far, let the chemistry continue.

Stupid like a knife :D

Who you think they watching on tape right now, Oh Next Great Igmo?

As for chemistry, the versatility of the DBs to execute at differnet positions in different situations is a killer asset that should be implemented, particularly as an element of surprise.

And the stats. They certainly attest to Tory's awareness on the field and he's having an absolutely great year. Tory has the ability to cover vs. most every team in NFL.

JUST NOT THIS ONE

Whatever. The Patriot's receiving core isn't that special. Their success comes from their good offensive line and Tom Brady. Tory did well enough against the Steelers, who have MUCH better receivers than New England. Hell, even the Jets had better receivers than the Patsies.

About as wrong as you can get, sorry.

Only the part about Tory doing well vs. Steelers is right. But Terrell did well starting vs, them 1st game and Myles did a number on Ward a couple times also in that game.

The question isn't so much who has got the "better" receivers as it is how a team uses their receivers and what they bring to the field that forces a defense to adjust to them.

Tory on Plaxico -- fine. Tory on McCareless -- even better.

But if you noticed during the Jets game, it wasn't Tory who got on the island w/ Moss and Jonathan Carter -- it was Madieu in place of the injured O'Neal because Madieu is the 2nd chocie to cover speed receivers in man.

The problem I see w/ Pats WRs is their speed and the patterns they run, which is different than Jets or Steelers because their top 3 are basically interchangeable in that regard.

Now Poole is doubtful and most likely out, but Samuel is questionable and most likely in. He chored for them well as a 5th rd rook last year as nickel in Super Bowl run. But his height creates that mismatch advantage w/ TJ AND K-Dub (who I got the feeling is gonna show up Sunday).

The downside of Samuel coming back is not only that he's a better CB than Brown but also that it will send Brown back to the O side, where he is battling Bethel J for the 4th WR spot. This will give Brady another option of the same interchangeable receiver but if it's Brown they go to --James can deal better w/ him than the other 3. IMO.

Now, the likelihood of a scenario of James not on field to start is nil. You gotta go w/ who got you there is the reality inthis situation. But I'd LIKE to see the different scenario if for no other reason than it should mess w/ the interior of Brady's skull and maybe force an early eff up.

To win vs. Pats at their mud hole, it's gonna take an enhanced level of aggression on the field and by the coaches -- IMO. :)
