Bobcat Bengal
T-Bone Crusher deserved better than to be cheap shotted like that. Tell me how it is illegal to touch a wr after 5 yrds, but you can ruin a players season and maybe his career by a cheap shot, and it is legal. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The competition committee needs to do something about those illegal cutblocks, there is no need for it, it goes against the spirit of the game. Justin Smith played inspired football for his boy, who is done for the season. Cutblocking is dirty, cheap football that no place in the game at any level. It should be banned and taken out of the game. Think of all the other touchy b.s. penalities that are called, but cutblocks are legal, it doesn't make sense.Ditto, and IMO its Because nobody gives f**k about linemen....the only thing they're concerned about are the QB and WR it seems. WhoDey42
Joe Theisman was on the Dan Patrick Show today and he said that he wouldn't be surprsied if the NFL changes the rule on chop blocks in the next week or two.
wookie
Joe Theisman was on the Dan Patrick Show today and he said that he wouldn't be surprsied if the NFL changes the rule on chop blocks in the next week or two. That would be great, but what does it do for Tony??? Foster still gets off for it. I know he felt bad about the injury, but the fact is he knows it was a cheap shot. All he had to do was put his hands on Williams and that would have been just as effective. The NFL is more concerned about QBs and WRs and Kickers. An NFL lineman spends the whole game taking a beating and they have holding penalties, or illegal hands to the face penalties to worry about. Nothing protects a player from cut-blocks, chop blocks, or unnecessary roughness away from the play. Its something that should have been addressed last season when Sapp almost ended a Green Bay player's career on a legal hit, and most people still defend that hit because it was up high and not at the knee or ankle.A rule change will help in the future, but something needs to be done to Foster now. Jam31
No offense to their fans, or the hard and clean playing Broncos What are you talking about?? The Broncos are notoriously the dirtiest offensive line unit in the league. That is all their offensive line does is chops low at the ankles. They are cowards and would rather hurt you than just man up and push you over. When we beat them like dogs during our Superbowl season, that is all the Ravens talked about was how their o-line just tries to creep behind you and take you out. That is the main reason their running game is so good b/c as a defensive player you never know where the next "illegal" block is coming from. The Broncos and Mike Shanahan are nothing more than cowardsBillick also OWNS Shanahan
Tee
Bill Cowher commenting on the chop block on Williams(from the Steelers website):Is there a way to better legislate cut blocking? No. I saw the play and I would not condone it. Is it illegal? No. Is it necessary? I don’t think so, personally, having played the game. I know if I would have lost one of our players with that type of play, I would be very upset about it. It is not illegal, but I would certainly never condone that on our football team.Marvin needs to stand up and defend his players and show some emotion......That was one of the biggest cheap shots ever. Foster just remember, What goes around comes around. You'll get yours someday @sshole..... If this were hockey, the gloves would be coming off.... TippCityRick
Joe Theisman was on the Dan Patrick Show today and he said that he wouldn't be surprsied if the NFL changes the rule on chop blocks in the next week or two. He actually called in to Mike & Mike this morning to restate his position. He did say that the league has changed rules mid season before (ie the Sharpie incident a couple years ago), but I didn't get the impression that he felt this rule would change this year. He did call for the League to look into the situation again. It's interesting cuz we lost Elton Patterson off our practice squad to Jax after their Dlineman was chopped by the Broncos. So in effect this type of block has cost us TWO players this year.
BengalBobNC
QUOTE (BengalBobNC @ Oct 26 2004, 08:48 AM) No offense to their fans, or the hard and clean playing Broncos What are you talking about?? The Broncos are notoriously the dirtiest offensive line unit in the league. That is all their offensive line does is chops low at the ankles. They are cowards and would rather hurt you than just man up and push you over.My comment was that not every single Bronco player is a cheap shot artist. I did not notice Champ Bailey and others taking cheap shots any time this year. Not that I've watched every minute of every Broncos game. I couldn't care less about that team. Not all Broncos advocate Shanahan's cheapshot chopblock teachings. But the league does need to do something about this. Shouldn't this, at least, fall under "Unnecessary Roughness"???? Joe Thiesman thinks a bunch of rules will change all the time. Everytime he doesn't agree with a rule he thinks it should be changed. Most of the time I agree with him like I do on this one, but I doubt the rule will get changed in the next week or two. I'm a Broncos fan and I was very upset when Foster took that cheap shot. I hope he makes a full recovery.
schweinhart
BTW, good go vs. Pats. The Mighty Green looks like a wildcard team this year.(No wonder you're pulling for Bengals) We held the pats to 1 TD and we dropped the game wining TD...we are better than you think. Didn't mean for it to sound like the Jets were being dissed. The East is not a foregone conclusion for the Pats as long as the Jets D keeps giving Penny a chance to win. But the teams in early playoff contention outside of the West -- the Jets, Steelers, Ravens, Jags, Colts, Pats -- all had to be pulling for Broncos to lose for wildcard and playoff homefield implications down the line. Tee
Marvin needs to stand up and defend his players and show some emotion......There we go! Marvin calls out Denver.....LEWIS UNHAPPY: Mark head coach Marvin Lewis as another upset Bengal over defensive tackle Tony Williams's season-ending injury on one of the Broncos' controversial cut blocks in Monday night's 23-10 win over Denver. Lewis said he agrees with Steelers coach Bill Cowher. "It's unfortunate. It's something I'm sure the competition committe will look at," Lewis said. "From what I understand, this is the second player that was injured playing against the Denver Broncos on blocks supposedly legal, but really not needed, not necessary. "He's right," said Lewis of Cowher's objections. "The point being we legislate touching the guy at six yards, but yet we allow that to happen. It doesn't make much sense."
