Elder is the first--and only-- Ohio high school permitted by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to broadcast their home football games this year live on the Internet in streaming video. This season's football webcasts have been viewed by Elder supporters across the U.S. and three continents.Elder students, with guidance from volunteer alumni and teachers, will produce this unprecedented Internet telecast of the game that can be seen by more than 10,000 viewers. The students setup the hardware; operate the cameras; choose the shots; write, direct, and edit the interviews; encode the video; and stream the broadcast from the state-of-the-art Elder network that is powered by Cisco. The broadcast will also allow for new interactive features made possible with software from IVT such as viewer polls, high resolution photos, and survey questions to be answered on the air by Prep Sports Radio Network (PSRN) 1360AM (in Cincinnati) broadcasters. To view the game, all you'll need is the latest version of Microsoft's free Windows Media Player and a high speed Internet connection. The website is www.elderhs.org, with a 7:15 airtime on Friday, October 22, 2004.CONTACT: Jerry Hamburg, Elder Technology Director, e-mail: hamburg.j@elderhs.org school phone: 921-3744 x3624 cell phone: 513-708-3648------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Earlier this season Elder High School became the first high school in the state to officially “webcast” a sporting event as part of a year-long pilot program sanctioned by the OSHAA. The Panther Nation was able to tune in from across the country to view the Indianapolis Bishop Chatard game from the famed Pit. This event is the latest in a nearly decade-long series of Internet broadcasting firsts for the Elder Panthers. In 1996, PSRN broadcast the first ever high school football game. In 2003, EHSports.com broadcast the first OHSAA football playoff game on the Internet, first high school basketball game on the Internet, and also broadcast the Ohio Catholic Invitational Wrestling Tournament (during which an Elder parent was able to watch his son wrestle while serving his country in Iraq).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
