jbengals1
check this out from an official at the ravens gameNEW YORK - An officiating blunder Sunday gave Baltimore critical extra time in its fourth-quarter comeback victory over Seattle, the NFL said Monday. NFL supervisor of officials Mike Pereira said both the 40-second clock and the game clock should have been restarted after an officials' conference over a penalty call with 58 seconds left in regulation. The Seahawks had the ball and led 41-38. Because the clock wasn't started, the Ravens had 39 seconds left instead of four or five when they got the ball back on downs at the Baltimore 33. They ended up tying the game on Matt Stover's field goal following a key 44-yard pass interference penalty. Baltimore won 44-41 in overtime. Ravens coach Brian Billick conceded that his team benefited from the mistake by referee Tom White and his crew. "There was, I believe, an administrative error in there, in that the clock should have been wound more quickly," Billick said.
ChicagoJungle
funny how the same guy that was complaining about officials and instant replay a few weeks ago has now benefited significantly from an officiating mistake.Did anyone else notice that something similar to this happened to us vs. KC? When KC fumbled late in the 4th, the officials debated down by contact for a second before agreeing the play was not reviewable and the player was down (Priest I think). But, the clock never restarted until the next snap, essentially adding 30+ seconds to the game. Since we won anyway, it wasn't a big deal, but had KC got another score, everybody would have thought about that play some.
AGrizzlyBaer
true but the seahawks had several chances to stop the ravens, and win the game and they didnt
San Antonio Bengal
The SeaChickens had their chances to put the Ravens away. They were up by 17 points! They could have finished the game themselves instead of giving it to the officials to finish. They had their chance and they blew it. But, in two weeks, we're going to march in Baltimore and finish what the Chickens couldn't.
Kirkendall
The Bengals should have beaten the Raiders, Arizona, Buffalo and Pittsburgh last time (all games within one possession to win or tie). We very well could have been 10-1, but that's the beauty of the NFL. There needs to be revisions though for the officiating. Make them full time or put an eye in the sky or anything, they have too much power to decide the outcomes of games. I understand that they are human, it's the way of the game, etc., but in this highly competitive league, there needs to be modifications to ensure a team that deserves to win, actually wins. I see your point, but the human element has always been a part of the game. Football is fun to watch with all the new enhancements, but I have a lot of good memories from games where the mud was so thick you could hardly see the numbers on the guys jerseys, and good luck finding a yard line to mark the ball on. Not saying it was better or wishing for the good old days ........ but in its own way, it was a lot of fun to watch then too.Don't like domed stadiums either.
