CTBengalsFan
why didn't we go for it? a 7th rounder is nothing, and Rice would have certainly been a good influence in the locker and especially for Chad. Not to mention he could help move the chains on 3rd down.
27atwater
1- He likes the West Coast (offense and location).2- Holmgren was his Offensive Coordinator in SF.3- It's an out of Conference trade.
BengalBobNC
Rice would not have accepted a trade here, IMO. He's in his last few years. He went to a team with a far more realistic shot at the playoffs. We would've been his last resort, only if no one with a large winning record wanted him. wookie
Agreed, he'd have been an excellent pick-up. I still can't believe that he only went for a 7th round pick. He's not 24 anymore, but he's still better than most of the WRs in the game today. He'd have not only helped out the Bengals' young recievers, but he'd have helped out Palmer as well.Too bad, he probably wouldn't have wanted to come to Cincy...but if the Raiders had made a deal I'm not sure he could've said no. He's been around a long time but this was only his 3rd or 4th season with the Raiders so I think his only option would have been to retire. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that one. belmontbengal
I posted something similar but you worded it much more succinctly. I wish we would have at least made a publicized attempt at him. BUT, in hindsight...Rice is old. He has limited upside, and the biggest reason he was probly never even looked at by the bengals FO is because of his contract. Our cap is very tight until we lose the mistakes from past contracts (Akili Smith being one of the biggest). The signing bonus we back loaded on him is still going and I think it is in its last year. Someone help me out on that?Anyways, I think it was as someone posted above a good thing for Rice because Holmgren is up there and he WILL get more throws there since Koren Robinson can't keep his hands out of the illicit goody bag.
