walzav29
I know it doesn't always relate to anything, but I'm curious if he's just elusive or is a burner who is just little. I want to know if I should get excited or not.

I want to know if I should get excited or not. Who cares??? The real question should be:CAN HE PLAY FOOTBALL???Too much emphasis is put on speed during the Indy Combines and not enough on the actual game a player has.Is your last name BROWN or something??? BoilerBengal
Are you stupid? Have you seen him play football? He's made some very nice plays and is very very quick. This has nothing to do with the Indy combine. Have you been FOLLOWING the bengals? Are you a browns fan or something?

I hate to keep referring to Office Space--but the game that was invented in that movie--JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS--reminds me of this post by the rookie.Dude, would you please read my post again. Where in the hell did I say that he WASN'T a good player???In fact, your reading composition skills SUCK!!! Read the whole damned thread again before getting in my face, rookie. On second thought--you're right. I'm stupidly stupid.
Barbarian
Too much emphasis is put on speed during the Indy Combines and not enough on the actual game a player has.Absolutely! I don't know about you, Kirk--but if I were a scout attending the NFL Combine, I wouldn't be sitting at the 40-yard line with a stop watch. Sure the 40 time IS somewhat important because you have to have speed to play in the NFL. HOWEVER, THERE IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTUAL SPEED AND FOOTBALL SPEED. Intelligence is a must here. So are instincts. Intelligence and instincts are used at taking the right angles to the play--being at the right spot at the right time. Using the right technique. So, while one scout may be getting a hard-on about some potential running a 4.2 in the 40, I'd wanna see his game tapes just to make sure this guy can tackle, hit, and have football instincts. So, I can return to my organization with a good feeling about this kid. Not like this:GM: So what's "player x" look like???Scout: He's got a great 40 time and he moves real good. He benched 225 30 times.WTF kind of report is this??? So, this kid is obviously in great shape from being a gym rat. What kind of football does he play???This kind of scouting mentality really gets on my nerves. We're playing football here--not running a decathalon. GM
Kirkendall
I still think times and other physical measurements are important, it's a stepping stone for players especially those that are below Div-1a football. But I agree there is way too much emphasis on it and lost is the emphasis on how players perform on the field and react to certain situations.Who was that super fast guy with the Raiders that was an olympic athelete and considered the fastest in the NFL? What's his numbers compared to Ed McCaffrey?

What's his numbers compared to Ed McCaffrey? Are you referring to Ronaldo Nehemiah (sp?)--the world class sprinter that had hands of butter or John Jett--the bullet-fast but equally inept hands of stone???? And Nehemiah didn't last very long in the NFL. I remember him making the cover of SI (which is the career equivalent of catching SARS) back in the 1980s but after that--I think they did a "where are they now?" thing on ESPN. Between his numbers or McCaffery's??? Not even remotely close. I'm not even going to waste my time investigating either.

IfItsBrownFlushItDown
I saw Brussard in the scrimmage and all he did was reminded me of an old Bengals player. That's right, Craig Yeast. Small, check that, very small, but very quick at the same time. Craig Yeast impressed the coaches for a while, until somebody woke up and realized he was too damn small to do anything. However, it's impossible for me to compare the two because as Barb said, you gotta see how they play football. Yeast was pure speed in college, and when Couch put the ball where his little ass could get it, he'd make a big play. There's no consistency there. He was not a guy you would rely on, just a guy you would stick in every once in a while, launch it to him, and see what happens.Broussard could be different. He could turn out to be a bigger playmaker then you think. But at the same time, Peter Warrick was a playmaker in college and has lacked it in the NFL.So the more I think about it...who knows? It all depends on how he plays the game of football.
BengalPappaw
I agree with the comments that speed is over reated. Quickness! a real key.To the original question about Broussard -- Mel Kiper has Jamall's 40 time at 4.59!What we really need to know is that he is QUICK and makes people miss!!! walzav29
JESUS CHRIST! Thanks Pawpaw. I wasn't trying start a National debate. I was just trying to figure out if the guy is quick or fast! He sounds like a smaller PW. I haven't seen him play I just hear about these guys every year in pre-season at they rarely pan out. PawPaw you're alright. Everyone else sucks.
Bobcat Bengal
Easy now fellas....If I recall, there seems to be an equally small and shifty PR/KR by the name of Dante Hall that's having a successful career.Oh yeah, I also remember seeing the HOF Game with a little mofo running behind the Bronco's O-Line by the name of Griffin....5'7 is being generous and he seemed to do just fine.Let them lil muthaf**kas get out there and play...and quit getting your panties in bunches....bitches(that's to ALL of you)
