ArmyBengal
Guess no one wanted to keep up threads while I was on vacation, so I will kick them back up again. Recap: The Reds took 3 of 4 from the Cubs and 2 of 3 from the Brewers in the last two series played.Tonight they kick off a 4 game series with the Pirates in town. The Reds are still 2.5 games behind the Cards with the Pirates only another half game behind them.Leake, Latos, Arroyo, and Bailey get the start for the Reds during the series. The Cards start a 4 game series with the Cubbies tonight as well. Ugh...GO REDS !!!
skyline
Yeah this series is about as big as a series can be in June. I wanted to keep up the threads, Army, but I've been out of town myself. Welcome back!
ArmyBengal
No issue with the threads. People seem to like them to throw in a comment here and there, so I try to keep them going. It's not just a big series, but it's the start of 16 in a row against teams with winning records. They need to keep pace with the Cards playing the Cubs or hope for the Cubs to get all big and bad. skyline
Wow, that is a brutal stretch. They finally brought Cingrani in as a reliever. I was opposed to that move the first time around, but man do we need him now...
ArmyBengal
Cozart, Frasier, Votto, and Bruce all hit solo shots (some upper deck bombs) and the Reds win 4-1.Of course the Cards beat the Cubs.On the pitching side of things, Leake pitched 7 SOLID innings only giving up 1 run on 6 hits. His pitching since Cingrani was brought up the first time has been amazing. Maybe something lit a fire ??Speaking of Cingrani, he was brought in for the last two outs of the 8th and walked one, but got the other two on strikeouts. If anyone missed it, they were showing closeups on him and he looked all sorts of fired up in that role last night.Talk about a stretch, I was looking back at the schedule and the last day off they had was the 6th of June. Up until the All Star break on the 15th of July, they only have one more day off, finishing the first half with 17 straight. They will earn that break for sure. ArmyBengal
Reds lose 4-0 and Latos picks up his first loss of the season (6-1).The Reds pitching strikes out 17 Pirate batters and still loses. Unreal.Continuing with the odd, the Cards lost to the Cubs last night, so we didn't lose ground at least.
skyline
Yeah, I don't know whether to be pleased that we didn't lose any ground or to be ticked off that the Cubs beat the Cards and we didn't capitalize. A little of both, probably.
ArmyBengal
The Reds win 2-1 last night in 13 innings.Arroyo goes 7 innings only giving 1 run, but the Reds weren't able to do anything until the bottom of the 9th.Bruce hits a homer off of Grilli and Phillips hit a bases loaded walk off single in the 13th.That was Grilli's first blown save and the first time the Pirates lost a game when leading going into the 8th inning.Of course the Cards beat the Cubs last night, so we keep pace.Final game of the series today with an early start time 12:35 ET.Bailey gets the start and it would be nice to see him get out of his recent slump. ArmyBengal
So Bailey only goes 6 innings due to a high pitch count. He struck out 8 and gave a a single run.In comes Simon, who loads the bases and then Cingrani to replace him and gives up a bases clearing double.Pedro Alvarez has a career day going 3-4 with all 5 RBI's.The Reds miss a chance to take the series and drop another game behind the Cards who beat the Cubs last night.
