Alex Brown anyone?

The Bears released DE Alex Brown.

With Antwan Odom coming back from injury, Geathers too, I wouldn't mind inquiring about his services. See what the asking price is. Maybe a one year deal, or a deal for 2-3 years where the contract is front loaded in an uncapped year that makes it an affordable cut him down the road if it doesn't work out.

Still 30 years old, he should have a few years left in the tank.

Thoughts?

Doesn't really fit the need. If Odom isn't healthy, the real problem is still with the pass rush. Rucker and Fanene are more than adequate against the run.

Alex Brown is a run stopping DE with marginal pass rushing talent. He usually gets 6 sacks a year... so while he's a guy who can play a lot of downs, and doesn't have a history of missing games... he's not really the solution to any problem the Bengals are looking for.

Yeah, but 6 sacks a year is more than we get from Geathers (who by the way has only gotten more than 3.5 sacks once in his 6 seasons).

I think I'd be more interested in a draft pick, assuming for a moment that all of the picks the Bengals make won't be offensive.

BTW, did anyone catch Charlie Casserly yesterday saying one team source had informed him there were at least 25 defensive lineman in this draft worthy of a 4th round grade or higher? According to Casserly that's not only never happened before, but no previous draft crop even comes close.

Yeah, but that was Charlie Casserly as an analyst. I bet as a GM if he were still in control of the Texans or even Redskins, he wouldn't think that.

Interesting though.
