Hue Jackson-merged threads

I get the feeling that the reputed half-time implosion during the playoff game may have been the breaking point for Jackson. He may not be interested in coming back here unless he is the OC.

I did find this tidbit on wiki, which I found interesting and something that I was unaware of before:

"Jackson spent 14 years as a college coach before joining the Redskins (for 2001season). His last college post was as Offensive Coordinator for the University of Southern California from 1997-2000. Jackson's duties in his last three years at USC included the recruiting and early development of Bengals QB Carson Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Palmer came to USC in 1998. Jackson also helped recruit Matt Leinart before he left USC."

Hue Jackson a candidate for Bears offensive coordinator

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 25, 2010 2:47 PM ET

Last week a report that Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson was interviewing to become the next head coach of the Raiders led to a vociferous denial from Oakland. Now there's a new report about a new team expressing interest in Jackson.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears are hoping to interview Jackson for their offensive coordinator opening.

Jackson has done good work with Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, and in Chicago, he'd be asked to do similar work with Jay Cutler.

Jackson became the Ravens' quarterbacks coach in 2008. Prior to that he had stints as an assistant with the Falcons, Bengals and Redskins, as well as at several colleges including Cal, Arizona State and USC.

I think Jackson is a better positional coach, than a Coordinator, or Head Man.

Before you give me crap....hear me out.

He had 2 brief stints as an Offensive Coordinator (Washington 2003 & Atlanta 2005) That were not impressive at all. Yet, he got raves for being a very good WR's coach with the Bengals, a QB's Coach with the Ravens, and even a RB's Coach with the 'Skins.

My point is, he is very good at getting productions out of a particular group (a small group) While working within someone else's playbook. But being in charge of an entire Offense, or a Whole team is an entirely different animal.

If he goes to Chicago as an Offensive Coordinator, what does he do? Does he use the Bears old playbook? It sucked. Does he Use what he did in Atlanta? That sucked too. Does he have an entirely new repertoire and playbook? I Doubt It!

It is much easier to be a great position coach, than a Coordinator. It has yet to be seen what he can do in that position.

I mean, there must be a reason why after 2 stints as an Offensive Coordinator, both times he went backwards into a positional coaching job.

Just saying.
