Kazkal
Rams send first-rounder to Falcons for a bowl of soupPosted by Mike Florio on September 1, 2009 12:30 PM ETEarlier this year, the Falcons were trying to trade quarterback Mike Vick, the first overall pick in the 2001 draft, for a seventh-round draft pick. They found no takers. Now, the Falcons have obtained another team's former first-round selection for a seventh-round draft pick. The Falcons have announced that cornerback Tye Hill has been acquired from the Rams. He was the fifteenth overall pick in the 2006 draft, the first year of the Scott Linehan regime.Per Jay Glazer of FOX, the Falcons have given up only a 2010 seventh-round pick for Hill. After appearing in 16 games as a rookie, injuries have limited Hill to 12 total appearances in two additional seasons.Signed through next season, Hill is due to receive a base salary of $1.037 million in 2009 and $1.3755 million in 2010.The bargain-basement transaction strongly suggests that, but for a trade, Hill would have been cut before the start of the regular season.I wouldn't have minded giving him a shot for a 7th
Pidge
Wow. There must be something going on other than the injuries. A 7th rounder? Not conditional etc. Worth it to get first dibs if he was going to be cut I guess.
