schweinhart
Frankfurt Galaxy TE Chad Hayes just signed for 2 years with Bengals.Somebody must've noticed him while watching Skip Hicks. At 6-6, 255 with some pass catching ability, does Hayes put Reggie Kelley and his $6.8-mill 4-year deal with a $2-mill signing bonus in limbo? Seems awful steep pay for a run blocking TE whose presence on the field tends to telegraph the play calling.

This guy's a scrub--just like Skip Hicks. This barely qualifies as news.
denverbengal
Give me a break, dude!!! This guy's a scrub--just like Skip Hicks. This barely qualifies as news. They must have seen something they liked. The signed him for 2 years. And $8.8 mil is an awful lot to be paying a blocking TE. I don't think Kelley's going anywhere either though. As for Skip Hicks. Yes, he's only proven himself in NFLE. Yes, he's a little aged for an "up and coming" RB. But I wouldn't call him a scrub. I'd be surprised if he didn't make the final roster this year. ArmyBengal
Whoa, yet again, couldn't agree more Hanna Barbarian... Been saying all along Skip Hicks is NOT going to be a factor for us. (Maybe if an injury occurs) To think Kelley isn't going to be here because of this new guy is insane. Maybe we go after an all around TE next year instead of having three or four that bring one thing to the table. BTW, that one thing is different for all of them... Don't like this either...WHODEY !!! schweinhart
Call me crazy but in the 4 games Kelly was inactive in 2003 the Bengals went 3-1 with Rudi and Dillon combining for 575 yds on 113 carries or 28/143 yds per game.I just don't think Kelly's important enough to earn a starter's salary.Besides, Schobel is ready and a Rudi contract extension could mean a cap hit for signing bonus on top of his $1.8 mill for 2004. Kirkendall
I wouldn't put it past anyone. The NFL has the most uncertain job security in the NFL.. if they feel that Hayes will be a better product than any of the TEs currently on staff, then why not take the hit now while we have 10 million in dead money already? I'm not saying it's going to happen, but in the NFL, this most certainly could happen...
chrishcovga
Well one thing certainly rings true to Marvin's philosphy - No one's job is secured.!Personally I wasn't happy about getting Kelly in the first place. Living here in Atlanta, I remember the 1999 draft when the Falcons gave up a 1st round pick in the 2000 draft to get him. Only to see Alge Crumpler in '01 become a pro-bowler while Kelly sat the bench !* He was drafted on pure potential ; he didn't even have good college numbers, and very similiar to our inability to draft quality players Dan Reeves gambled his future first rounder on a guy that wouldn't have been drafted till day 2 at best that year !I say if Hayes is better, dump Kelly and Stewart ! -- And for Petes' Sake , Somebody get Matt Schobel a ( Total-Gym ) before we change his first name to IR- Schobel ! Kirkendall
Exactly what would we lose if Kelly left Cincy?
schweinhart
Far as I can tell about $1 mil in base and $500,000 signing money for this year. And $1 mil in dead money for the rest of his $2 mil signing total. The 2 rookie free agent TEs were waived last week leaving Schobel, Stewart, Kelly, and Hayes for hopefully just 3 TE roster spots. If Schobel winds up IR, at least Stewart will catch. There's just absolutely no reason to believe that Kelly will ever be a pass catching TE.
