Whur CHad At? Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 I hate Smith and I really hate Maclin. But I think that the intrest in Maclin is not a smoke screen with the bengals. I think they really really love this guy and most likely will select him( I hope not)Monroe please fall, please f**k something up so you can fall to us.The Bengals are not selecting Maclin, there is not a fan in Bengals land (except you) that believes that the Bengals are going to select Maclin with the sixth pick in the draft. I have seen articles where we are selecting Beanie Wells, I have seen articles where we are selecting Everette Brown and the list goes on you have to separate the garbage from the real stuff. I know the Bengals have done some stupid stuff but even if Mel Kiper and Todd McShay was saying that the Bengals were selecting Maclin I still would not believe it. You don't select Devin Hester/ Jeremy Maclin with the sixth pick in the draft. I respect the rest of the guys on the site they took the high road and did not even respond to this B.S., because they know that's what it is truly B.S. . The only way we draft Maclin is if he's still there in the second round and we both know he's not going to be around that long. I don't know why you hate Smith if he can keep his weight down he has the potential to be a future pro bowlerHey nancy, I dont want Maclin. I think he is a horribly overrated reciever. I never wanted him look up my history, I have shared my thoughts about this guy.All I am saying is I believe he will be the pick. The Bengals just don't like him, they love him. This could end up being a another fine Mike Brown pick.Read what I say before you put s**t down. Quote
Bearcat1975 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Won't matter who is picked. I doubt he'll see the field until we are out of playoff contention. (week 8).The holdout this year is going to be long, and it is going to be frustrating. But in the Bengals defense, I would bet there will be a few other lengthy holdouts. I can't tell you who those other holdout teams will be, but I'll tell you a few of the teams that it won't be... (ravens, steelers, patriots, etc). But hey, given the uncapped year on the horizon, I'm sure Mike Brown will suddenly not be stubborn for some reason. Quote

He's the one receiver in this draft that fits the traditional Bengals WR prototype for size, speed and upside and he offers the bonus of return ability. I wouldn't be happy at all with the pick, but this is Mike Brown we're talking about who seemingly drafts WRs high every year (no pun intended).Throw in two 30+ WRs who might not be around in '10, a free agent to be in Chris Henry and a bunch of unproven, 2nd year guys, and it might make sense (from his standpoint at least). In 99', the Bengals had Carl Pickens and Darnay Scott and still drafted Peter Warrick #4 overall, so he also has a track record of these types of moves. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 Good point Happy.I also forgot about Pickens and Scott were both here when we drafted Warrick. It is scary, history might be repeating itself.Correct me if I am wrong, but was Pickens released or traded that same year? I don't remember. Quote

He had 57/737/6 his last year in Cincinnati after posting 1000+ yard seasons in 4 out of 5 seasons prior on some below-average Bengals teams. Sound famliar? Quote

Sound famliar? When Pickens was cut, they waited until June so that they could split the cap hit over two years. And that cap hit was only 3 million. Hobson has stated that the cap hit for trading Chad is between 5-7 million.I tend to think Brown is far less likely to take such a hit unless he gets something of good value in return, and likely won't even do it then. I don't know how close against the cap the Bengals are... but I'm willing to bet that if they take a $5-7 million cap hit, and then sign the #6 pick, they wouldn't have a ton of money to play with to get another 1st rounder signed. whizzo Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Chad won't be traded. Mike Brown has said he'll keep him, and that's that i think. as for the cap issue, we know how frugal MB is - that 5-7 mil cap hit alone should keep chad from being traded.on a side note, my Madden franchise has 80mil in cap room right now... and we still won the super bowl Quote

Obviously, Mike and Katie don't own Xbox 360s. I can't wait to play Collinsworth '10 next year. NFL Network reported last night that Arizona is "listening to offers" for Boldin. For the handful of teams that might be interested in trading for a veteran WR, this can't be good for Chad. I guess it's now or never, though. Quote

Trading Chad would increase the Bengal's cap space and perhaps more importantly to Mike Brown, save him Chad's considerable salary. Quote
