Whur CHad At? icehole3 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I expect a lengthy holdout, Brown doesnt do anything easy Quote
scott91575 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Those numbers are just crazy for an unproven player, and the reason it is going to be really tough to agree on a bargaining agreement between the owners and players. It's sad that top picks can actually be considered worth less than later ones due to the contracts. Quote

mgilgris Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Exactly no one wants to trade up... now where are all the idiots that were wishing that we lost more games to get a higher draft pick. Quote
HAPPYJAQ Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Exactly no one wants to trade up... now where are all the idiots that were wishing that we lost more games to get a higher draft pick. That amount may be pretty attractive for a team that needs a QB. Stafford will sign for much more and if Sanchez is there, a team could acquire a future Franchise QB in Sanchez, assuming he drops. Quote

Whur CHad At? Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 Well with Andre Smith's latest move, I do not want to give him that money.I expect his holdout to last the entire training camp and possibly pre-season period. Quote
walzav29 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 If Crabtree is there I think a team might trade up to get him. It won't be top 5, so it's a little more likely. We have to all focus on the #1 pick. That will let us know whats going to happen. I hope they take Stafford. Quote
HAPPYJAQ Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 It's one year less and 35.6 million dollars more than Mike Brown paid Dan Wilkinson in '94 as the #1 overall pick. Pretty crazy to think about 15 years later. I remember that Brown was pissed about giving him a 5 million dollar signing bonus back then but gave in because Leigh Steinberg was his agent and he didn't want Big Daddy to hold out. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 Here is to hoping Eugene Monroe falls to us...not getting my hopes up Quote
Baraka Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 why monroe? not trying to be an ass, just wondering. Quote
HAPPYJAQ Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 I would rather have Monroe over the rest, as well. He seems to have the least the least amount of questions. The only real knock I've heard on him is that he's possibly not as aggressive as you'd like a LT to be (or a little "soft"), but Mike Mayock says he's the best pure pass blocker to enter the draft since Joe Thomas. icehole3 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 doesn't he have knee problems?havent heard anything like that, he wouldnt be top 5 if he was having knee problems Quote
James_Brooks21 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 doesn't he have knee problems?havent heard anything like that, he wouldnt be top 5 if he was having knee problemsI like Andre Smith more then any of those other linemen, when you watch games he is kicking butt everytime. I live in Florida the heart of SEC country so you know I heard all the time how good he was and how he was going to be the number one pick coming out. Don't get discouraged about this combine crap or whatever he is a masher, I would be concerned if they found an injury. What's funny is that people have suggested that the Eagles might trade up and get him, if they did the analyst would be saying what a brilliant move by them and that he might possibly still be the best player in the draft. If we choose him they will be questioning us and saying what we could have got instead and how he is a big risk. But that's the way the cards fall with the Bengals, there draft picks will always be questioned because of their history and lack of scouts. Quote

For all the weird stories, I've yet to see anything that will keep him from being a dominant player on the field.Bottom line with this kid is that he will be the best player available, and it just so happens that he plays a position the Bengals need to address desperately. If they can't trade down, Smith needs to be the pick. Quote

DC_Bengals_Fan Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Given the economy and the unsettled CBA situation, I think this is the year the bubble pops. Salaries were down i n basketball and I believe baseball this year. It depends on the Lions, though. If they set a high contract with Stafford compared to Matt Ryan (plus a 2-pick bump since Ryan went 3rd), look for a LOT of holdouts. If the Lions get Stafford signed to a reasonable contract early (which I doubt), things could settle in OK. But there's no way Stafford's agent takes a low offer before the draft, so either the Lions pay him what he wants, or they go with someone who is willing to take less than #1 money to avoid sliding. They can't draft Stafford without signing him.My guess is that Stafford will get paid what he wants, because the Lions seem determined to get their next QB in a draft that's not great for QBs. That will put pressure on teams to take a real hard look at how much they want to spend. This may be the year that some team tells a guy to piss off and re-enter the draft next year.It will certainly be interesting. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 I have a feeling in my gut that Maclin will be the pick at 6. I do not know if it is just me or what. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 With that kind of money, you have to take 3 things into consideration...NeedBPASafeSeeing as how there is no such thing as a "sure thing" safe pick and they all have issues to concern, you go to need vs. BPA.Sadly for some on this board (NOT ME) Andre Smith has to be considered that person without much thought. You know he's going to be the BPA available at #6 and CERTAINLY fills a huge need. You just can't argue that. Dislike his actions, dislike his boobs, dislike whatever else you choose, but you still can't argue that he's the BPA and fills a need. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 I hate Smith and I really hate Maclin. But I think that the intrest in Maclin is not a smoke screen with the bengals. I think they really really love this guy and most likely will select him( I hope not)Monroe please fall, please f**k something up so you can fall to us. Quote
derekshank Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I hate Smith......Monroe please fall, please f**k something up so you can fall to us.If what you want is someone to f**k something up so that they can fall to us, you must look no further than the guy you currently hate. Of course, the entire reason you hate him is because he f**ked something up. Why would Monroe be any different... other than the obvious reason that he's not as good a football player? Quote

I think they really really love this guy and most likely will select him( I hope not)Monroe please fall, please f**k something up so you can fall to us.The Bengals are not selecting Maclin, there is not a fan in Bengals land (except you) that believes that the Bengals are going to select Maclin with the sixth pick in the draft. I have seen articles where we are selecting Beanie Wells, I have seen articles where we are selecting Everette Brown and the list goes on you have to separate the garbage from the real stuff. I know the Bengals have done some stupid stuff but even if Mel Kiper and Todd McShay was saying that the Bengals were selecting Maclin I still would not believe it. You don't select Devin Hester/ Jeremy Maclin with the sixth pick in the draft. I respect the rest of the guys on the site they took the high road and did not even respond to this B.S., because they know that's what it is truly B.S. . The only way we draft Maclin is if he's still there in the second round and we both know he's not going to be around that long. I don't know why you hate Smith if he can keep his weight down he has the potential to be a future pro bowler Quote
