Whur CHad At?
Coles is three months younger than TJ, and has more catches. Has almost 700 catches. $7 mill a year is a bargain for this guy, love it. And if we do take ReyRey in the first, what about OT Jamon Meredith in rd2? whizzo
i'm fairly happy with our offseason signings so far - Benson can get it done, it would seem, and if Coles remains the steady (if unspectacular) producer he was with the Jets, that's OK. I just hope he can help our first-year WRs as a mentor.as for the draft pick, i still think we need to go either LT or DE - Smith, Monroe, or Orakpo. of course, a versatile D guy would be nice, but Curry'll be gone, and Cushing's not a 6th overall pick i think
HAPPYJAQ
I would HATE to think of a scenario where our biggest FA signing and our 1st round draft pick are both WR's. That said, I can't see a scenario where we pick a WR at #6 overall, even if we trade Chad. If we do, why did we pick Caldwell and Simpson as our 2nd and 3rd round picks last year? At some point, they have to play these guys. They're only under contract for 4 years each! The one thing that I do like about the Coles signing is that he is regarded as one of the better blocking WR's in the game and he's at least as physical as T.J. Signing Coles should help our running game, too. I think he'll produce here and the more I think about it, the way teams have thrown around money this offseason, 6-7 million for a proven receiver might not be all that much. I still believe that we'll take whomever the Bengals feel is the best pash rusher available with the #6 pick and they'll go somewhere on the OL in round 2 before picking another RB in round 3. I'd be elated with an Orakpo/Maybin, Eric Wood, Andre Brown draft.

This was his biggest gripe that we were not improving the team to compete with the other teams, we got a wide receiver that in my opinion is not a big of a drop off from T.J. who has never had the benefit of working with a quarterback as decent as the one T.J. blossome under, plus we have a running back that will bring more tools to the table with the benefit of training camp. Bengals are headed in the right direction, we should go out and get one more offensive linemen and then get one of those rookie tackles in the first round and we will be a force to reckon with. HairOnFire
The hell with trading Chad, line his ass up and let's go play some football. Pretty much. I'd love to see Chad traded ASAP, but I don't think that's the plan. In fact, I don't see where the signing of Coles changes anything in those regards. I have no complaints with the addition of Coles, but truth be told I'm far more excited about the signing of Benson.

With our second 3rd I think we will take a corner to play nickel for us and then get LB and DL depth the rest of the way. I do see a fullback coming in round 5 or 6. This guy has stats better then TJ, younger(not by much, still), faster. Plus saves us dough. Hell im happy having one pro bowl Receiver on my team in Chad, but having two? How can you not be excited? The field is going to get stretched like tight pants on a fat girl next season.
Whur CHad At?
Only saves $1 million.
Clackwoods
Only saves $1 million. Not true, He saves one million a year, plus he doesn't have a fifth year so his deal is actually a savings of about 13 million. I would rather have Coles anyways and TJ is going to kick himself when Hassleback goes down and he is catching passes from Senica Wallace and they are third in their division. Thurmanation
We've finally gotten the long stick after all these years of picking the *** damn short one. Coles i think personally is an improvement over TJ. With TJ you know he's going to go over the middle, and he's going to bend your defence all day. You give him the under routes cause you know he lieks to take them and oyu know he sure as hell isn't fast enough to attempt to go over the top in man coverage. He's got solid hands(like almost every other receiver in the NFL, it's harder to find players that can't catch then those who can). With Coles teams will have to place the same amount of coverage on Chad as Coles. Three years ago we couldn't have traded TJ for Coles straight up, and i don't believe much has changed in those three years (except for maybe a step being lost by both). Now i could be completely wrong and Coles ends up being like Roy Williams on the Stars. ALTHOUGH i don't see it happening. Our QB can spread the ball out FAR better than Tony No-mo. HairOnFire
Cmon Hair. Tread lightly, Jungle. You're still on my kill list. This guy has stats better then TJ, younger(not by much, still), faster. Plus saves us dough. It's an outstanding response to the loss of a popular important player. But even with Housh gone I didn't see WR as a pressing critical need. At least not as critical as having a starting RB in the fold. How can you not be excited? Well, I am a little excited. No kidding. But yeah, we're excited about different things. And along those lines I'm more excited by the thought of a power running game taking much of the heat off of Carson Palmer. I'm excited by the way the Benson signing opened up this teams draft options. I'm excited by the opportunity to change this teams identity from flaky flyboys to throat punching ground pounders. The field is going to get stretched like tight pants on a fat girl next season. Well, I do love the fatties.

Pidge
Good move. Not a fan myself but he has produced good numbers in the league, and that's all that really matters. Another hole has been plugged and this opens the draft up for us. What a difference 24hrs can make.
ArmyBengal
To start, love the signing as it DOES keep us from drafting a WR in the first, EVEN IF WE TRADE CHAD...Next, it does open the chances of trading Chad and I won't be suprised if it does or doesn't happen. Having Chad is a nice thought if he and Carson on the same page and our WR corps is once again, pretty deep. Trading Chad only means they really do have the faith in the youngsters. Those saying this move says they have little faith in the youngsters, I say wait to see what happens.Next, saying TJ is going to fail and get cut next year makes you sound like all the Jets fans saying the same thing about Coles coming here. While I believe TJ is not going to have the kind of year he would have here with Carson, I can't see his production falling off to such an extent that I would call him a failure and no way does he get cut after one year. Just wont happen...Benson's signing makes me VERY happy as well Hair. The draft options took a HUGE turn and that impact will pay BIG dividends... The draft options took a HUGE turn and that impact will pay BIG dividends...I believe Coles was a starter when he played for the Jets. He was double covered because he was the one to watch. To have him and Chad on the field at once is going to be a very good thing to see. Also, we will see how great TJ is in double coverage every down. That alone will make his numbers drop significantly.I also agree about Benson. I am a big fan of keeping him here since he knows our system already, and can spend his time on improvement and not education.

Exactly. And let's be clear on this. I may think the Benson signing was more important, but all things considered I'm pretty happy seeing TJ's spot adequately filled, if not upgraded, in the span of a single freaking day.
