walzav29
I was watching the NFL network last night, and they replayed Tenn vs Cincy from the 99 season. It was embarrassing. There are only like 4 guys on that team that are still playing with the team. It just shows how pathetic the Bengals were ran before Marvin got there, and he should definitely be applauded for the necessary cuts that he's made. If Marvin can somehow cut the Owner/GM/President out of the picture, then the Bungles would be "The Bengals" again.

CJBestInAFC
Yeah enough with the stupid name calling really immature. The team has improved so much since 99. There are some good articles on espn.com in the nfl section. They talk about all of the teams. They do an analysis of every team. On Wed. the Bengals are the featured team. The Steelers went today. Bengals should have big days in the air against this team. Check it out. Very good analysis that isn't skewed by writers that are biased. chrishcovga
Honestly for Pete' Sake ! Why do you guys have to remind me of the '99 season. Anyone remember these Faitful words - Mel Kiper " I'd be really surprised to see the Bengals pass on all those draft picks from Mike Ditka here. -Chris Berman - " Those picks could go a long way to helping that team !- Joe Theismann - Champ Bailey should be thier pick if they're staying put !- Chris Mortensen - Well considering that the Bengals and Browns had Akili on their minds last night, Cincy will probably be going Quarterback at # 3. * Paul Tagliabue * - With the 3rd overall pick in the 1999 NFL players draft, The Cincinnati Bengals select Akili Smith QB, Oregon . Oh Gawd the horror. This has to be the all-time low point for the BUNGLES when Mike & Co picked Akillme over the 10 or so draft picks that Mike Ditka was offering.Oh, that's pathetic. What a joke. I think we had the lead too. It makes you wonder what would have happened if we could have won that game. But it helps when you are in game shape for the first game. Also, was that they year that Tennessee went to the Super Bowl?? Sometimes I just shake my head....
jrandom42
This was also the same game where Charles Fisher tore up his knee, ending his career and setting the stage for Toast Hawkins to come in. That really set the team back a bunch. I think Fisher could have been a solid, pretty good cornerback, not spectacular, but some one who could have been counted on to do his job, make a few plays and consistantly cover all but the top 3 WRs in the game. I think Fisher could have been a solid, pretty good cornerback, not spectacular, but some one who could have been counted on to do his job, make a few plays and consistantly cover all but the top 3 WRs in the game. The facts are, Charles Fisher was a reach in the '99 draft. There were several players ranked much higher than him, yet we let our poorly understaffed coaches decide on him. Granted, we'll never know how well he' could have been due to the Injury to his knee, but we drafted him over 1. Dre' Bly - Pro Bowler - 20 career interceptions, 4 touchdowns in 5 seasons !2. Mike McKenzie - Pro Bowler - 15 career interceptions , 2 touchdowns in 5 seasons, and one of the better run defenders at the cornerback position.3. Mike Rucker DE from Nebraska one of the elite pass rushers in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers etc. etc. etc...A pathetic player from a pathetic mindset leading to a pathetic draft ! Same reason why we drafted Toasted Hawkins over Brian Kelly, Samari Rolle, and Patrick Surtain in the '98 draft !
jjakq27
A pathetic player from a pathetic mindset leading to a pathetic draft ! Same reason why we drafted Toasted Hawkins over Brian Kelly, Samari Rolle, and Patrick Surtain in the '98 draft ! I had a friend that played for UC during the 97 season when they played in the first Humanitarian Bowl game. I saw him on the day of the draft and mentioned to him that the Bengals had taken one of his teammates. At that time they were in need of OL help and Jason Fabini was mentioned as a possible pick. Since I don't really follow UC football I told him that I wasn't familiar with the guy but he had a funny first name and played DB. We figured out that it was Artrell Hawkins had he was stunned. He said, "they wasted a 2nd round pick on that guy?? He gets burned all the time!" We don't need no stinking scouts....all they needed to do was ask a lowly freshmen if they should take him or not! He would have told them the truth that we all know now.
