Pidge
Maybe there is blame to go around but what's the one constant throughout the almost 2 decades since Paul Brown RIP died.No argument there. If Mikey were just a GM working for an owner in some other city, he would have been fired along with Dave Shula and would be nothing more than a distant, bad memory to the game of football. But the fact remains that he's had plenty of help screwing up, from coaches who accepted their own castration in return for a fat paycheck, to players -- Dillon, Wilkinson, Spikes, Pickens, Scott, etc. -- who were paid like pros and acted like spoiled children. There's no doubt it all starts at the top. But crap flows downhill, and the entire organization has come to wallow in it.True enough. Fundamentally, I think everyone, including even the most optimistic among us, don't expect anything other than cosmetic changes until the ownership either f**ks off or actually finds some motivation for anything other than jerking a quick one off over the annual profit margin readouts. Pidge
Could you imagine Mike Brown running any other bussiness with his record of ineptness and still haveing a job?No, but that's the beauty of owning a North American sports franchise. Due to the closed league and revenue sharing, there is almost zero tangible incentive for actually trying to win. Well, other than a personal sense of pride/shame. You can be a lollygagger and make a tidy profit. I say lollygagger because I don't actually think Mike Brown is inept. I'm sure he's a smart enough guy - I mean he figured out he can make money by losing pretty early on and has used the formula for almost 20 yrs now. Why go to the effort of making a slightly larger profit which requires an immense amount of planning and hard work?
jjakq27
TJ could have been more of a leader, etc. by participating in the spring. Being on the same page with Carson early in the season (see INT vs. Baltimore inside the 10) might have changed things and helped win a game or two when it mattered. I always liked TJ's toughness but there is still too much of the "me" element in there for me. I truly don't feel sorry for any of these guys. They are making millions playing a game even if they never win a game this season. Seems pretty cushy to me. Don't quit your day job.
