BengalPimp
The Bengals are currently tied with New Orleans for the 19th ranked defense in the NFL, including #6 vs. the pass(For what its worth)Remember the days when we all said .....Man...if we could only have a top-20 defense with our offense..we'd take it all....Of course you all remember, it was only last year...and the year before...and the year before.... The Bengals defense isn't all the way terrible this year, but holy lord do teams run on them a lot.

This offense is terrible.A couple years ago the Raiders had one of the best ranked pass defenses in the NFL. Was it because they had a good defense? No... it was because by the 2nd half they were down by three scores and teams were just running down the clock. The Bengals are the '06 Raiders. Teams are trying to run the clock out at the end of the game because they already have a large lead. Also having good field position for the opposition also contributes. For example, last week when they played the Steelers Larson punted the ball 15 yards, all the Steelers had to do was move the ball 30 yards to score. The D did hold them to a field goal but still good field position makes those defensive #s look a lot better than they really are. We still are one of the worst teams against the run. You cannot say any defense is good when you can't stop the run and get no pressure on the QB.
GregCook
Look at 3rd down defense. Is the Bengals defense good at getting off the field on 3rd down? Zimmer doesn't think so. Our record says no too. Still, we need another season to know if Zimmer can make something of it. Unfortunately, unless we acquire some extra draft picks, in 2009, that will be a protect Carson Palmer draft. Assuming he's playing in 2009. Kazkal
With our Offense it's hard to mount a decent defense overall i'm happy with improvements made this year from last and hope it continues.

You cannot say any defense is good when you can't stop the run and get no pressure on the QB.See, I remember an overtime loss to the Giants, a Browns game that went deep into the fourth quarter and a Steelers game that went well into the second half before it got out of hand. So for these three games there was not all that much time to kill the clock with just runs. Seems as if the opposing teams come into the game wanting to throw the ball only when they have to and use the running game to slowly wear down the defense and pull away late in the game. ArmyBengal
I like our secondary for the most part, but they are very young. It should be fun watching them keep things together for a little while and progress as a unit. Now if they could get some more interior push along the line (I like what I see out of Sims to this point) and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, get a pass rush, we would be ok. Upgrades to the LB corps are still a must, but Rivers will be back and he had a solid year up until the last game.
