rishipatel Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 I didn't see any other thread on this. Goodell will now fine teams if their players are suspended(by him) for disciplinary purposes.Clubs fined for suspensionsI don't really like this. The teams can only do so much to prevent players from getting into trouble. At the end of the day, these guys are adults accountable for their actions, even if many come straight from college and are thrown a ton of money at a young age. I don't have a problem with incentivizing the clubs to do their best to keep their players out of trouble...the part I really take issue with is that Goodell is the one who decides if the player is suspended. So both punishments that hurt the team are directly linked to one decision by him(judge, jury and executioner). His first move needs to be to set some written guidelines of "if you do this, then this will be the punishment". Right now, it is too arbitrary, and I have not seen equitable distribution of punishments from him. Wasn't it Jared Allen who had 2 DUI's and got a one or two game suspension, while Odell got two seasons? I know there is more to both stories than I am making it sound like, but there's no way you can look at this and think it is equitable. Goodell is too drunk with power, as evidenced by many of his decisions to date. Quote
Ickey44 Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 I think the theory behind this new rule is this: don't draft guys with off-the-field issues. Had this rule been in effect before the draft, I doubt the Bengals draft Shirley or sign Purify as a free-agent. That, I believe, is the ultimate goal of this new rule and I'm kind of in favor of it. Maybe this will finally reduce the amount of players getting arrested. Quote
BengalPimp Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 5 bucks says the Cowboys will never get fined for anything that may happen....Patriots either. Quote
Ickey44 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Have the Patriots even had anyone arrested? The Cowboys supposedly have all kinds of people following Tank and Pacman around for the sole purpose of keeping them out of trouble. So, yeah, you're probably right. Quote
