If this team is going anywhere in 08...

(Fill in the blank) is going to have to step up. The AFC North is quite possibly the best division in football. I expect the Ravens to bounce back and at least be highly competitive this year. The Browns have a nice young core on offense and their young D should only get better. Although I expect the Steelers to fall off a bit this year they are still the reigning NFC North Champions. If we are going to stand a chance some players are going to have to come out of nowhere and become leaders/major contributors to this team.

Top Candidates on D:

JJoseph/Leon Hall:

These two have the weight of the entire D on their shoulders. We didn't get that difference maker on the D-Line we desperately needed, so our lack of pass rush from 07 shouldn't improve too much, if at all. If one of these guys steps up and becomes as close to a lockdown corner as we have in today's NFL it will make all the difference in the world.

Peko/Geathers:

Both have shown flashes of being that stud we've always been missing on the D-Line. Geathers looked like he had turned the corner at the beginning of last year, but injury's to the LB Corp. moved him out of position. He could be a double digit Sack guy for years to come. Peko is one of the pleasant surprises of the 06 draft. He's proven to be a solid starter in only his 2nd year. Now it's a matter of if he's satisfied at being good, or if he wants to be great. If he can take it too the next level it's going to make things easier for everyone on the line

Top Candidates on O:

Chris "2 carry" Perry:

It seems very strange to have him listed, but we all know what he's capable of when healthy. He gives us a homerun threat in the running game and also adds one to the passing game. With Rudi coming to the end of day's we could really use a healthy and productive Perry all year.

These are the only two I could think of for the offense. I thought about listing some O-Lineman, but the play of the O-line hinges on the health of Willie and the health and commitment of Levi.

Who do you think has to step up this year for the Bengals to be playing in Jan. Bengaldom?

I think the top candidiate for the O has to be O-Coordinator Brat, if he can break out of his routine and start to use the TE, FB and RB's more in the passing game this offense could get back to 2005 form.

I think the Bengals need whoever is starting at the safety positions to step up. Madeiu missed a LOT of tackles last year, with many of them resulting in big plays in both the run and pass game. Marvin White and Chinny showed promise last year in limited action but are stilll unproven. Dhani Jones has to show that he can lead and play well at MLB, for the first time in his career. There obviously has to be better play at DT. If the Bengals can be solid up the middle, I think they'll go to the playoffs this year.

EVERYBODY...And they have to do it every week. Its a team game, and honestly 1,2, 0r even 3 players "stepping-up" isnt really going to cut it.

Everyone needs to Bring-It every week, and be on the same page as the other guys their lining up next to.

Sounds simple enough.....but........

sounds real simple, but that's all that needs to be said. we can't afford to have anybody not step up.
