duus
I've heard about this numerous times from fans here in Western PA. They joke about Carson's ability to bring his team back with big numbers, only to give it up at the end of the game. Then, Ben does the very same this weekend, bringing his team back from 18 points down, only to hold on to the ball too long, fumbling away any chance of a miracle comeback. BUT ... no one around here wants to talk about that fumble. They don't even want to talk about how horrible he looked in the first half (3 ints). All I hear is that "you cannot blame Ben". Then how in the world can you blame Carson? Just venting ... as usual.(oh, I wasn't sure where this topic belongs ... a little Bengals ... a little 'NFL')
skyline
Carson has also led some late-game rallies/comebacks.People are just stupid. Nothing new there.
derekshank
I was actually in Pittsburgh during the playoff game. There was nothing sweeter than watching the faces of all those Steelers fan in the bar I was in when they went down. It might have been a bad season to be a Bengals fan... but misery loves company - and I enjoyed their company on Saturday night.

In any case, as I think Ox pointed out, the difference between the '07 Steelers and '07 Bengals is but six days and one playoff game ... but the Bengals get the #9 pick while the Steelers get #24. Oh, and although the entire North has a tough schedule in front of them next year, the Steelers will get the additional honor of playing both the Colts and Patriots. Their O-Line needs A LOT of help, and they have spent money on the wrong linemen recently ... and now Faneca is gone. Plus, the big dollars will be heading toward Ben this off-season as well. They don't know if they are a 3-4 or a 4-3 team any longer. Their LBs are aging, and their 4th round choice of a kicker is looking pretty foolish. Lovin' it. Spor_tees
Alan Faneca to the Bengals perhaps? Maybe a little revenge towards the Steelers for how he was treated towards the end of his stay? If Willie was let go, then Whitworth could take his place at tackle and let Faneca move right in

The two things that made an otherwise very dissapointing season satisfying:1) Beating the Browns in PBS2) Watching the Steelers get a playoff win dangled in front of there noses - then yanked away. Damn that felt good.Let's be honest - if they would have had to face the Patriots next weekend they would've gotten steamrolled.I'd much rather watch the Jags play the Pats. DC_Bengals_Fan
It's pretty easy to explain. Needing a score to win, a QB will hang on to the ball longer than he'd like, facing a defense that knows he has to throw. Result? Pass rush finally gets to him, knocking the ball loose. Not hard to explain. I don't think it's a big deal for either guy. That first half is the hole that they couldn't dig out of, as you mentioned duus.Keep hammering away against the locals about Ben's performance in big games. Imploded his rookie year in the AFC championship game against the Pats. Sucked in the SB which they won despite him. Laid an egg in the wild-card game. I love it. It works both ways, and I'm pretty sure one of the locals noticed the graphic that was flashed during the game showing how Ben had led the most 4th quarter comebacks over a time period I didn't bother noting. Let's just face facts and admit that while he has some advantages to work with that Palmer doesn't share Roethlisberger finally proved himself to be a capable QB even with the training wheels removed from his bike. Furthermore, when the biggest Ben doesn't have those advantages...like a strong running game and a top offensive line....he's just as vulnerable as other QBs who are forced to throw the ball over and over. Furthermore, when the biggest Ben doesn't have those advantages...like a strong running game and a top offensive line....he's just as vulnerable as other QBs who are forced to throw the ball over and over.... and that's the point. When your running game is suspect, your offensive line is ever-changing and questionable, and you cannot count on your defense to make stop after stop ... well, you, even as a top 5 QB, will be forced into situations where you likely will put up nice numbers, and maybe even keep the game close, but in the end it may not look so good. We've seen this from Carson several times over, but Ben has had the luxury of not being put into such situations. He's been called upon to come back, but he didn't have to worry about the defensive stops, or the O-line protection, etc, etc. Well, this weekend we saw that mixture ... and we saw the outcome. Is Ben a very good QB? Of course. But when people want to suggest that he is better than Palmer, or that he would do better than Palmer on the Cincy teams of the last few years ... well, that should be put to rest after seeing this weekend's game. Silly.
