ArmyBengal
Usually I'm the one who hates this topic more than most and never like to discuss it. Why ?? Because Marvn has ALWAYS been a supporter of the base 4-3 scheme and has stuck with it since being here. With there being a new D-Coordinator on his way in, is this the time to make the change ?? The draft, I think, would have to net us a clear NT to man the middle unless we were to get maybe Haynesworth to fill that spot and then grab a big pass rush guy in the draft.Do you think the move would be to much of a disruption to the youngsters that have made an impact this season heading into their second and third seasons ??Personally, the only reason I brought it up is because it might be the only time that I could see Marvin agreeing to make this kind of change and could stand reading about it at all...So what do you guys see with this ?? All in all, it will probably be the same 4-3 we have seen, but thought I would bring it up as it has been hinted to in other threads.WHODEY !!! Kazkal
Well being our 3-4 needs would be same as our 4-3 needs, though we are bit thin at LB but if we got some of to return like Odell and pollack
walshfan
Donnie Henderson will be the DC and he plays a 4-3 but Id imagine he'll give it different looks.
DC_Bengals_Fan
As you point out, the NT is the key. Still, it usually takes a couple of years to get the right personnell (see Cowboys of last couple years), and a personnel guy with experience building it. Who's our GM? Nevermind. walzav29
I will guarantee that Pollack never plays again. He'd be nuts to try anyway. As for the 3-4/4-3 it doesn't matter, because we need new personel for both. Who do we want? Tim Lewis or Donnie Henderson?
DuffMan
After watching Geathers try to play OLB for a few games I hope we don't try to switch to a 3-4. Plus if you look at the 3-4 defenses in the nfl they are all pretty contingent upon a good NT, i.e. C. Hampton, J. Williams, V. Wilfork. I dont see a potential NT on our team nor do I see one available in the draft. But whatev I guess if Shaun Smith can play NT for the Browns maybe Peko can swing it. Also, if the Bengals really are trying to resign J. Smith, who isnt any sort of 3-4 player, then the 4-3 seems most likely.
HairOnFire
I still see it as a dead issue as Marvin Lewis is still the head coach and has never expressed much affection for a base 3-4 scheme. So I'd be shocked if he picked anyone who wasn't a 4-3 guy.
cincy9275
i don't care what we run ,as long as we can be effective. 3-4, 4-3, 3-3-5. whatever just stop some damn body!

Playing a 3-4 OLB is much different then a 4-3 OLB,If """Lights Out""" can do it I think jumpy could.

I'm inclined to lean that way too because of the LBs that Marvin sucked up during the season. What do they have, something like 13 or 14 LBs on all the lists? ArmyBengal
Once again, I'm not saying this is what I think the Bengals are going to do, just kicking it around for conversation seeing as how there will be a new DC in town. I think Marvin is still going to stick with the 4-3, but also think that IF there were going to be changes, NOW would be the time to make them.I would imagine free agency could play into this as well, but given our history with FA, maybe not...WHODEY !!!
