Horrible looking on all fronts

I cringed last week when I saw the Bengals were going to be the 'Flex' game on NBC. All of my fears about getting spanked on national tv came true. If it were not for the Dolphins the Bengals would probably be the laughing stock (once again) of the NFL. Here are my top 'beat the shi* of of the couch' moments from last night:

1- Poor game planning all around. Does this team even hold Defensive meetings any more? How do you let Hines roam free on the goal line play?

2- Not being able to take advantage of the turnovers. Just how many times in the second half did the Steelers turn the ball over and give us great chances to score- and nothing

3- Wrong routes / Overthrows. When Carson is off, he is really off. Our wideouts having to stretch out and try and pull down overthrows makes them targets for body shots from safeties and corners.

4- The whole half time thing. Can we please stop with Bettis and 'everything Steelers'. That was a stupid skit with him going into the Steeler bar and Chris going into an empty Bengals bar. That looked like a cheap SNL stunt.

5- Hines crying during the halftime thing about the Bengals giving them no respect [TJ cleaning his spikes with a terrible towel] We won't even talk about what they did after the Wild Card playoff game.

6- Marvin showing no emotion. Anyone see his 'no reaction' on the offsides on the punt? Man that looks says it all, black Monday can't get here early enough for this teams set of coaches.

OK...since I've been one of the D's biggest critics all year, I have to say that play was probably the only real F-up the whole game. Other than that, the D played very well. They talked about how the LBs are starting to attack and not just sit in gaps and wait for O-linemen to blow them up. You can really see the difference. Even if it wasn't a fumble on review, I LOVED watching Parker get absolultey planted in the ground.

But other than that, I agree with you. Especially about Carson - he doesn't have 'just OK' games. If he's not on....watch out.

The D looked decent. Mostly it was the scheme that was idiotic.

Carson looked bad. There were mostly bad throws, though some hit hands and should have been caught. Bresgt f-ing pass happy again and lost balance, despite Kenny and DeDe looking good running the ball. He is getting Billick-esque.

Marvin has to improve his game management. Maybe he is just dumb? I mean, the mistakes like the offside on the punt is pure coaching. Teaching discipline and control are his job. Also, bringing in guys who are receptive to being coached and judging a players coachability are also on him. It is starting to look like ML is bad at this (hello? GM anyone?)

All of this sh^t flows downhill. make all the jokes you want but Mikey is truly accountable.

This was a very very winnable game. It took a true, old-school Bengal effort to F it up.

The D (players) did look good but I saw this in a different way. I wouldn't say that Leon's play was the only F-up. How many sacks did we get? Not 1. The D-line play-calling was absolutely horrible! Breshnahan needs to be fired first thing after Monday's meetings. He would call a stunt on an obvious run play that took our d-lineman right out of position. Then on the very next play he would call a regular rush up front and Pittsburgh passed the ball. It was like playing chess against a first grader. I'm not just talking about 1 or 2 drives, this was going on the whole game.... And then he made some kind of a call were Madieu came up and pressed the reciever (Ward, I think) and Leon dropped back about 7-10 yards and Pittsburgh picked up the 1st down.

I'm 100% sure that the scheme is mostly to blame for our horrible defense. Injuries hurt too, but Bresh's play-calling is just terrible.
