jbengals1
Draft Analyzer Cincinnati Rd 1 Sel #26 Pos-RB School- Michigan Player - Chris Perry Vic Carucci's Analysis I think this is a good, solid choice for the Bengals. Perry is a decent enough inside runner to be a good complement to Rudi Johnson and perhaps become the heir apparent to Corey Dillon. Rd 2 Sel #49 Pos- CB School- Florida Player - Keiwan Ratliff Pat Kirwan's Analysis Ratliff had 28 starts in college with 12 interceptions. He plays faster than he's been timed and can help right away as a kick and punt returner. He wasn't as high on most boards at corner as this pick calls for. Everyone knew the Bengals would take a cornerback here, but most thought it would be Will Poole or Derrick Strait, but Ratliff gets the call. He was the SEC defensive player of the year in 2003. Rd 2 Sel #56 Pos- FS School- Maryland Player - Madieu Williams Gil Brandt's Analysis Williams is a player that was born out of the country in Africa and originally started school at Towson State and then transferred to Maryland. He had a very impressive Pro Day workout -- he ran fast, did the jumps and short shuttles and had outstanding numbers. This guy has a chance to be a starter this year. Rd 3 Sel #80 Pos- OLB Schoo-Arkansasl Player - Caleb Miller Gil Brandt's Analysis This is a fast, athletic linebacker. He's another of the converted running backs that have become linebackers, and because of their speed, they can play all four downs. Rd 3 Sel #96 Pos- OLB School- Purdue Player - Landon Johnson Gil Brandt's Analysis Johnson is another Texas high school linebacker who isn't real big but has real good athletic ability. The guy that received lots of attention on Purdue, Koutivides, hasn't been picked yet, but Johnson has. Rd 4 Sel #114 Pos- DT School- Michigan State Player - Matthias Askew Gil Brandt's Analysis One CBS SportsLine.com expert had him penciled in as a first-round pick in his mock draft. Askew is a big defensive lineman with speed. He has size on top of that speed, which is what people look for. Rd 4 Sel #117 Player Pos- DE School- Georgia Player - Robert Geathers Gil Brandt's Analysis Geathers' uncle, Jumpy, had a long career in the NFL. He entered the league early and it probably would have been in his best interests to have stayed in school to develop his maturity and skill. Rd 4 Sel #123 Pos- OT School- Mississippi Player - Stacy Andrews Gil Brandt's Analysis This is the brother of Shawn Andrews, but he went to Mississippi on a track scholarship. He played a total of 68 plays this past year, mostly against Auburn and Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. How green is he as far as football knowledge? Eli Manning told me that in the Auburn game, Andrews had no idea what a two-minute drill was. Rd 5 Sel #149 Pos- WR School- Nevada Player - Maurice MannGil Brandt's Analysis Mann probably worked out for more teams than anyone else in the draft. He's tall and he ran very well at the combine and at his Pro Day. If there weren't so many WRs in this draft, he'd probably have been picked two rounds earlier. Rd 6 Sel #183 Pos- CB School- Southern Mississippi Player - Greg Brooks Gil Brandt's Analysis Probably the last cornerback available. He's 5-10, 180 pounds with 4.45 speed. That's the type of speed everyone is looking for. Rd 7 Sel #218 Pos-QB School- Wyoming Player - Casey Bramlet Gil Brandt's Analysis He's a very good high school athlete in Wyoming, and he impressed a lot of people in his workouts at the East-West game, and at his two Pro Days. schweinhart
landon johnson prospect profile… Known for his hard-hitting style of play, he is aptly nicknamed "Silent Assassin," as he forced seven players to leave the game after delivering tackles in the last two years … Oh, that Landon Johnson. Kchrpm
For what it's worth, when ESPNs draft people were asked to the AFC teams who did best in the draft on SportsCenter, Mel Kiper chose the Bengals.
Twurksum10
Kiper also gave the Bengals one of only 6 A's for his draft grade. That means out of 32 team we at the worst had the 6th best draft according to him.

Indycat
Mel Kipers reportBengals: AI was a little critical of their selection of Chris Perry, but the Bengals will get a nice second option to go behind Rudi Johnson. Kieran Ratliff is a big-play corner while Madieu Williams made sense at the safety spot. Caleb Miller is a productive linebacker while Matthias Askew made some things happen at Michigan State and could be a force with some experience and coaching. Stacy Andrews is a project at tackle who could pay dividends in two years. Maurice Mann is an underrated wideout and Greg Brooks could develop into a nice nickelback. I like what Marvin Lewis did to help his defense.
kevnz
Mel Kipers reportBengals: A This is a sign of the apocalypse.....Kiper didn't use the draft to rip the Bengals? Well, at least Marvin has got the press off this teams back.....

chrishcovga
We added so much talent on day 2, its' hard not to have a good draft. Overall I think we were successful filling the roster for years to come, but I don't think we got enough impact players..Likes - Andrews, Askew, Ratliff, Williams, Brooks.Dislikes - Bramlet, Geathers <-- hope I'm wrong about him.Still out on ..? Perry - No one is gonna sell me that he was better than Steven Jackson.Would have picked different..? - Caleb Miller, Landon Johnson <-- not sure he was best linebacker at Purdue - I think we settled here.. Miller has some upside so I'll wait and see.Mann - good pick and value, hopefully we've seen the last of T.J.

Kirkendall
Still out on ..? Perry - No one is gonna sell me that he was better than Steven Jackson. Why does Perry have to be better than Jackson? Perry might fit our team better in terms of locker-room balance and adaptation from Michigan's scheme to ours. More than just college performance has to be analyzed, everything is a factor and that's why I think they felt more comfortable with Perry.Mann - good pick and value, hopefully we've seen the last of T.J.Oh dear god PLEASE! Jungle_Fever
A day has gone by to soak this thing up. I had us taking Perry in the second round so naturally I was dissapointed that we used a first round pick on him. Perry must have been the Bengals #1 priority since they made no attempt to move up for anyone else so I will give them credit for getting an extra pick and Perry. Parcells passed on Jackson and they need a RB a lot more than we do so I will give ML the benefit of the doubt. Also, I dont believe that Perry would have been there with the second pick as I had hoped for so they did the right thing assuming they wanted Perry. As I mentioned before, I think we will have an awesome backfield this season but when it comes to pay Rudi next season, I cant see us wanting to pay what he will be worth but maybe we will get lucky and Rudi will want to stay with the champion Bengals and settle for less.Apparently Ratliff was also the Bengals choice as CB and given the Eagles tried to move up and get Ratliff I will also give ML the benefit of the doubt here as well. Originally, I thought we could have gotten him later but that may not be the case.Only real surprise was the center/guard situation but apparently ML would have taken one with the second pick in Grove, Smiley but they were gone so they were on the right track. Only thing I have to assume is that no other center was worth the pick so it will mean a top priority next season in the draft or free agency. Not too late so Im not worried about it.QB is way down the road for us so any body will do for now. Unfortunately for us, once Palmer becomes the role model for QB's we may not be able to afford his next contract. No way I want the Bengals to have a manning like contract at QB. Takes away too many other options so I expect we will address that in the future.I hope andrews pans out at OL as a nice backup for us but hard to imagine that for this year. Pray for no injuries to the line.I think the D looks in good shape. Have to start figuring who will make it and who will be gone.Thats me out!! It will certainly be worth it.But last time I checked, Peyton has only won a couple of playoff games and I believe the Colts overpayed and thus have skewed every other QB contract down the road. PS: I heard Kerry Collins turned down the reneg. of his contract. All I can say is good luck Eli...you're gonna need it.

THe thing that struck me was something he said before he got here, like I'm just a punk who is unproven. Don't get me wrong, he's gonna get his loot and he should, but I think he's more about winning and team comraderie than breaking up the team so he can get more millions...hes set about 4 generations deep at least

I thought you were losing it a few times. The draft is what it is: A CRAP SHOOT. Hopefully the team has figured out how to minimize the crap. It's the first draft in awhile where the potential upside outweighs the downside.
