Chris Perry reminds me of...

When I first heard the Bengals choice, Chris Perry, I thought, NOT ANOTHER RUNNING BACK !!! but this guy will not be a bust. not like Ki Jana Carter. Perry reminds me of James Brooks, who ran and caught the ball, a versatile back, a valuable commodity with a young QB the likes of Carson Palmer, who will feel the heat of the rush and will have to dump off the ball from time to time. I like the pick. Way to go, Marvin !!! :D

There's a huge difference between leaving the first overall pick on the bench and leaving the 26th as a backup.

Carson was going to be the future of the team, no ifs, ands or buts. And he got paid as such.

Chris is a solid all-around player at a position that is important in our scheme, that replaces what we lost from last year (not only a backup RB, but a backup who's good at catching the ball). And if Rudi and the Bengals decide they can't agree on a contract number next year, we have someone who already knows the system after playing in it for a year.

Rudi has got to go???? My god man have you watched or paid attention to the NFL in your whole life. What happens when Faulk, Dillon, James, Holmes, Davis, or Portis goes down??? there back up comes in and in the NFL this can and does happen. Two starting RB's in the NFL is almost a neccessity. Rudi is the starter and Perry will come in and add deminsions to the team we dont allready have. He also gives us leverage after this year with Rudi. But the biggest deal here, is when we have a great guy like Rudi who wont complain and doesnt mind sharing the load on the team, and people who have a football IQ of my girlfriend try to hand him a ticket out of fan, it kills me. Shut up enjoy the RB tandom, cause when Rudi breaks a 40 yard run followed by Perry catching a 30 yard swing pass for a TD, I bet youll do a 180 and try and play off all your misguided ramblings from the pre-season.

Also I dont get how sitting a year didnt work for Palmer?? Im pretty sure that hasnt be answered yet, and every indication is that Carson will own the NFL soon enough, thanks in part too sitting and getting to learn things for a year.

"The offensive tackle from Stanford agreed to a seven-year contract worth $8.939 million. The deal has two voidable years and includes a $3.6 million signing bonus"

That is a quote from ESPN, on Kwane Harris's contract last year. He was the 26th player chosen in the NFL draft last year, exactly where Chris Perry was taken so im sure Perry's will be comperable. Probably a little more since hes an RB and Harris was a OT, but in the same ballpark. So if anyone else thinks we cant afford the two of them, go ahead and check out those numbers, Dillon made way over 3 million a year, and next year thats about all Johnson/Perri would count against the cap. sounds like a bargain to me

I was surprised also that they took Perry but it looks like they were trying to fill gaps and add depth on their team. I heard later that Lewis said that they felt that most of their starting roster was set with the free agents they picked up this year.

I think this pick was made for several reasons. First Perry gives them someone who can catch a screen pass or catch a ball on third down. That is something we haven't been real strong on for a long time even with Brandon Bennett.

Second the Bengals averaged about 50 yds per game against their division opponents last year. Perry is another weapon that can take the ball outside if necessary rather than running inside all the time with Dillon or Rudi. It keeps the defense honest by not bringing the safety up on every play.

Third Perry has played in the Midwest in November and December and has been successful in those conditions.

Lastly Rudi has not signed his contract yet and I think they are covering their rears also.

I did hear that the Bengals had Perry #1 on their board for RBs.

Well Chris Perry reminds me of a shiftier Curtis Martin. Just as though Martin blossomed from a 3rd down pick, I think Perry would have been a better pick in round 2.

And yeah you're right , A guy like Perry or Steven Jackson should be built around. Having Rudi in front of him may slow his development. Rudi' is gonna have to prove himself, but Steven Jackson was the better pick !

They are different types of RBs, they should compliment one another very nicely.

Hopefully kind of like Brooks and Woods did.

BTW the problem with Ki Jana Carter was that he was Damaged goods.

The problem with Ki Jana Carter is that he played ball at Penn State. Penn State running backs are soft.

ie. Curtis Enis and Blair Thomas............who knows what Larry Johnson is going to do.

Im glad we got Perry from Michigan.

GO BLUE!

Just for clarification, in no way am I advocating getting rid of Rudi this year. Rudi will sign the one year deal and we will be glad to have him. However, when Rudi pans out to be the stud we think he his, he could demand a lot more jack next year. That's where Perry comes in. I cant see ML shelling out big bucks next year to keep Rudi with Perry as an option. I'm sure this makes a little more sense. Sometimes writing doesnt come out as intended.

That's why I said this was a "mikey" pick... Same thing they did in '96 !!

* Drafted a guy to force a contract situation with another ! Getting the '4th rounder was just the icing on the cake.

who do you think has the tougher schedule between michigan and oregon state?

Michigan. The Big Ten is a tough conference EVERY SEASON; including the four Perry was there. Pac-10 gets maybe 1-2 good teams a season, but nothing ever comes out of it anyway.

God I feel dirty talking good about Michigan. I need a shower.
