Something New?

At Training Camp today, they were working (what looked like ) 1st team O vs. 1st team D in passing drills, they had Peko and Thornton at DT. Rashard Jenty and Eric Henderson were playing the DE's.

They were working out of a 4-3 alignment.

I saw an article on Benglas.com today that said they were working on giving Justin Smith fewer snaps to keep him fresh and improve his sack totals.

Maybe they were just standing in,maybe they were working those guys at DE to give them a few reps just in case, maybe they are getting thin at DE and they and want to experiment in pre-season.

My guess is it is we could see either or both playing some DE in the season at very least in the pre-season.

Well, Jeanty and Henderson manned both DE positions late in the Detroit game, but after the game the Bengals made a point of saying not to expect much of that in the future. And I don't. There was no way Smith or Geathers was coming back into that game and Rucker and Fanene were both injured....as is their habit. Both are said to be practicing again so the depth is improved.

Moving on, I've said for years that Smith would be a more effective pass rusher if played fewer snaps, and to their credit the Bengals have said the same thing from time to time. Then each season ends and you read somewhere that Smith played about 98% of the snaps yet again.

True that,Their aren't many defensive players in league who probably play as many snaps as Justin does each season.anyways I could see them using Henderson or Jeanty at DE in a real game ala Elvis style like the broncos and just rush 10 feet off the tackle.
