We have a cheap Samsung CRT HDTV, and couldn't be happier with it.
agreen_112
Well it depends on what your variables are... Do you play games a lot/casually? If so, don't go plasma, go LCD, DLP, or RP CRT. Does your space have a lot of light? If so, don't go DLP or RP CRT, go LCD or Plasma... I really don't think you can go wrong with DLP or LCD, don't get sucked in to the plasma hype! LCD is just as good. Is this your 1st HDTV? IF so, 720p or 1080i will do just fine. With your price range 720p would be ideal. Here's my next LCD venture, it can handle up to 1080p: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?...browse=&s=1 It's native resolution is 720p but it upconverts to 1080p, which gives the best resolution possible. Hook up a PS3 or Blu-ray to this TV for the best picture you've ever seen, PS3 and Blu-ray are true 1080p. What also makes this TV really nice is the QAM tuner, which are becoming more and more useful. What a QAM tuner does is recieve unencrypted HD signals. Just plug in your regular cable line from the wall and if your lucky, you'll pick up several HD channels. I can tell you that in my area TNT, Discovery and all the Locals are unencrypted. This saves you money on having to upgrade to digital cable. If you want ESPNHD, you'll have to subscribe to the HD channels and use a HD cable box.I have a 51" 1080i RP CRT for sale. I'm asking $650. It has a extended warranty also. 360 and PS3 look amazing. The picture on it is awesome, games look like your on the field. It's just a little too big for my living room. Newborn's crawling and almost walking, need more space. Check out the AVS forums before you decide to purchase anything. This is a link to my TV that I have for sale. The people on AVS really appriciate this TV, which is why I bought it: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....e=126&pp=

agreen_112
TV has 2 main Uses1.)Games2.)FootballI barley watch movies...but I do now and thenDon't go plasma then. I don't care what they tell you, plasma will have burn-in. Even the little logos in the bottom corner will burn in if the channel is viewed repetedly... LCD, DLP, or CRT is they way you want to go, trust me... If you get a HDTV you'll probably find yourself wanting to get the most out of your set, which will eventually urge you to get a HD-DVD or Bluray player. If I had an extra G I'd go with the sceptre that I posted above. The blacks are incredibly high in detail and has no problem with shadows, No dead pixel problems, and decent sound. The HD is about as good as it gets. I've seen a lot of HDTV's and this one has a good pic.LCD would be ideal for a living room or family room that gets sun during the day. If it's going in your basement, DLP or CRT are cheaper and provide very very good HD, they also handle your regular standard definition signals a lot better than LCD. CRT is the best for Standard def.
