alleycat
This guy's numbers were basically better than anyone's at the combine - across the board (well, except the bench). He seems a bit of a freak given his size. Nice to see the Bengals involved in some of the more obscure places. From NFL.com:San Jose StateThere were 15 teams there, with Bengals assistant coach Louis Cloffi putting the DBs through the drills. The players ran on FieldTurf.Courtney Brown, DBThe Cal-Poly SLO product worked out at San Jose as part of their pro day and he really stood out with eye-popping numbers. He originally started school there as a wide receiver and was moved to DB in 2004. Brown (6-1 3/8, 200) ran two 40s, notching a 4.35 and 4.32. He had a vertical jump of 41 ½ inches, a 10-foot-11 broad jump, a 4.07 short shuttle, a 7.10 three-cone and 15 bench presses.
derekshank
Obviously a great athlete. But can he play? I'd take a shot at him and hope he can learn. Physical ability can't be taught. Much of the other stuff can.
schweinhart
There's always small schoolers with speed to burn who pop up without getting invited to any of the all-star games or the combine. Last year, Cortland Finnegan was one who got drafted but he was also a punt returner.15 teams is a lot but there's players from SJSU like WR John Broussard and Cal Poly's Kyle Shotwell who more scouts probably came to see.Last year IIRC, Ricky Hunley worked out Cal Poly's Chris Gocong. There were only 5 or 6 teams there but Gocong still went in the 3rd.But those #s Brown posted are pretty impressive. Somebody will likely take a shot at him late unless he doesn't know how to spell his name.
Section 310
Yeah, Artrell Hawkins also had a great 40 time and was a workout warrior...unfortunately the jackass couldn't play football.
BlainThePain
Yeah, Artrell Hawkins also had a great 40 time and was a workout warrior...unfortunately the jackass couldn't play football. That also proves that 40 times don't always translate to game speed, too. It seemed like Artrell was always a couple steps slower than any WR on the field while running deep routes.
