walzav29
You will see that the Bengals beat the Ravens and easily could have beat the Chargers. The Pat's and Colt's though are the true class of the AFC, and spanked Cincy. The Bengals are there with the rest of the pack, but obviously are a little off when it comes to being a total team like the Colts and Pat. Look at how long those teams have been together though. ireally think the Bengals are on the verge. This is a very, very critical off-season in terms of aquiring talent on the defensive side so they will be able to have a good defense and a good offense at the same time. CJBestInAFC
I agree that the Pats and the Colts are the best AFC teams and probably the best two teams in the NFL. If the Bengals can get a defense, only then will they be true SB contenders.
jditty47
the shift in power doesnt happen overnight. slowly the pats will fade out and we will climb the ranks
HoTbOy
The Pats/Colts are the 2 best teams in the NFL, it could just as easily be the Pats in the SB, were they playing at home...if these 2 teams can lose players and still do the things they do then either they have better coaching or they draft better than we do, because where we fall short is obviously on the defensive side of the ball...They can lose a starter and maybe have to go 2-3 people deep at a position and still get the job done...We lose CPalmer last year and looked at what happened... jditty47
pats arent even a top 5 team in the nfl. they are just well coached and well disciplined, which results in playoff wins vs stronger teams.
kayaker0678
^^^ "dumbest statement EVER!!!!" How do you have good coaching well disciplined team that results in playoff wins and not be a top 2 team. They were in the AFC champion ship which puts them atleast in the top 4. I would but them ahead of the Bears and Saints anyway. So they are definably a top 2 top 3 team
jditty47
there were more than 5 better teams than the pats going into the playoffs. they get lucky in matchups and who they played. but they arent a top 5 team anymore. wasnt a dumb statement. idiot. The Pats don't beat teams, they just hang around with them and wait for them to make mistakes. It's very very rare for the Pats to go out and actually dominate anyone. They play just good enough to stay in the game without making mistakes and they wait for better teams to do something stupid or for some fluke play to go in their favor, or a call, or something like that. Of course, sometimes the other team doesn't make mistakes, and that's when the Pats get blown out. If you look at it, almost all of their wins against good teams are by about 3 points, and their losses are usually by pretty large margins. walzav29
That is exactly what determines what a great team is. The close games. You know, like the ones the Bengals lost to:BaltimorePittsburghAtlantaSan DiegoDenverand Tampa Bay
SteelerFan87
That is exactly what determines what a great team is. The close games. You know, like the ones the Bengals lost to:BaltimorePittsburghAtlantaSan DiegoDenverand Tampa BayYeah, but I think that statement is overrated. If you're a great team, it doesn't matter how great you are, you're going to lose some games eventually. If you're really great, those losses should be close, because how great are you if you get blown out? I think the meaning of the statement is more that great teams don't panic in close games, and thus are able to win in those situations. If you're a great team you should be able to win close games, but winning close games doesn't automatically make you a great team. If all your wins are close and all your losses are blowouts, that seems to suggest you are a slightly above average team that can play with any other team, but isn't good enough to really dominate anyone.
