laserluver
IF you miss the game wining kick your done in my opinion. But he's usually money so its a toss up. The Bengals won't cut anyone, they dont' have the freaking balls. I wanna see at least 3 or 4 guys cut this offseason.Kickers are going to miss sometimes. It's freakin human nature to fail. It's the % of times you succeed that matters. And he's 3-4 in realistic game winning kicks for the Bengals. And honest to goodness, I don't know how his kicks missed this time. The dern ball was headed right down the middle. I'm still frustrated. And....might I add. He's had plenty of chances for game winners/clutch kicks taken away due to sacks putting us out of range, or false starts backing us up too far, etc. All I can say is...if it's third down and you are in range....DON'T take the sack. Throw the ball OOB. He will be fine.I think I finally figured out how the ball veered off after initially heading straight down the middle on the field goal. It was Lamar Hunt nudging it from above to get his beloved KC Chiefs into the playoffs. Had to be!BTW, I tried to see if there was a way to change the subject line on this topic which was started by me but couldn't find one. If you know of a way that the originator of a topic can do that, I'd be glad to make it something less harsh.
rwjcgc
" My question is: Did we deserve to go to the playoffs? "This is a strange question coming from someone backing the kicker. One of the marks of a good team is the ability to win when you aren't playing your best.Sunday Shayne kept this team from the playoffs. Had he made it, Marvin would look like a genius (almost).I'd be curious to hear BengalSIS list reasons why this team didn't deserve to go to the playoffs. If you need me to explain why we don't deserve to be there, then you haven't been watching all season.Edit: Also...why on earth do we want to make anyone look like a genius when we need things to change.BengalSIS - it would have been interesting to see your top reasons the team didn't deserve it, besides the failure of your brother in the clutch. You have somewhat of an insider's view, it may have opened some eyes on this board. Here's hoping your brother can put this behind him and perform as needed in the future. I don't ask Shayne stuff about the team and he likely wouldn't tell anyway (kind of the keep the stuff in the lockerroom in the lockerroom rule). I only have what most of us know. My biggest complaint: overall game management. From horrible timeout decisions to poor player exchange between plays (numerous times too many/few players and wasted timeouts fixing it). Too many false starts for a team that should be more disciplined. Too many "kneel down" on opponents offsides (for freak's sake, it's a free play). Too many sacks that should have been thrown out of bounds. These are decisions that are coached into players through gametime situations in practice. We made too many mental mistakes that I believe should be fixed with coaching. Coaches can't MAKE talent, but they can teach good decision making and better play execution. I know more of these examples are about Carson, but I love him, so it's not directed at him. I just don't have time to go through them all. Such as a player going down in bounds instead of running out when we need the clock to stop. Second major complaint: For freak's sake, why did we allow so many teams to pick us apart with inside slants and screens and then not use them ourselves? We either ran or went long unless Carson needed a "save me" short pass. Our 15 yard cusion drove me nuts this year by letting avg quarterbacks march up the field and use up the clock just so we didn't give up the "big one." Again, these are coaching decisions. Our D never adjusted to getting beat ( I swear I thought we should let teams have a few yards on second down so that the third was always third and short. We had a better chance of stopping that than third and long).I was dissapointed with O playcalling, but it got better, so I'm letting it go for now. jjakq27
Even after yesterday, no way I get rid of Shayne. That's nuts. 1) That kick was just weird, I've never seen a ball hook that badly in midair. Sometimes, s**t just happens. 2) I'd rather get a kickoff specialist if that's the problem. But no way do I pin this loss on him. Shayne is usually money, and ask Parcells what a reliable kicker is worth. In the end, it all came down to Graham and he sealed their fate. The bottom line is they'd be going to the playoffs if he'd have made that kick. Put him in the same category as Scot Norwood... and ship him out! There are alot of other things that need to be fixed before we get rid of Graham.
