Revised '06 Draft

I did find it strange what he said about who we should have taken.

ELVIS DUMERVIL, DE, Louisville

Original pick: Johnathan Joseph, CB, South Carolina

A fourth-round pick of Denver's, the small but speedy Dumervil has blossomed as a situational pass rusher, logging seven sacks. Marvin Lewis could use another edge rush threat to help take some of the heat off Cincinnati's secondary.

Robert Geathers is about as good a situational pass-rusher as we could hope for. Where would Dumervil play?

I was wondering the same thing.

Have you looked at our LB situation?

:lmao::lmao:

Our linebacker situation NOW is a lot different than it was last spring - a healthy pollack, a healthy Simmons, a sober Odell. Stuff changes!

Well obviously... but I thought the whole point of this fun little exercise is to see how the draft would go based on current needs knowing what we do now. The idea of taking another situational pass-rusher (as happy as that might make HairOnFire) when we are struggling so bad in the LB position merely indicates that the person in charge of reserach in this article at the very least misjudged what the greatest area of need is for the Bengals.

No biggie though. The more interesting aspect of this article is the ranking of the rookies anyway.

I find it outrageous that while I was blissfully sitting on a caribbean beach drinking copius amounts of vodka someone chose to throw my missing butt under the bus by suggesting that I might have been in support of using the Bengals 1st round pick on a situational pass rusher.

Unfair, says I.

Had I been in support of the Bengals using a high draft pick on ANY DE you can be certain that I would have pimped a 3-down prospect with better than averager run stuffing abilities over any of the one trick ponies that have attracted attention due to their ability to produce sacks in obvious passing situations. In short, I didn't want an Elvis Dumerville or a Mark Anderson then and I probably wouldn't want them now even armed with the hindsight that David Pollack was about to break his friggin neck.

Frankly, if I knew then what I know now I still would have spent months pimping the idea of drafting a CB, and I have absolutely no complaints with Jonathan Joseph...save for the fact that he can't seem to catch a football under any circumstance. But to quote Tom Jackson..."Knock it down!!!!"

Because that'll do.

And with all of that said, now that I've climbed out from under the bus that I was unfairly thrown under......let me close by saying that it's nice to be back on the 'zone......blindly cheering for the playoff bound Bengals.

Relax Hair... Getting thrown under the bus is part of being a valued member of this forum.

I wasn't attempting to be unfair. In fact, I remember both of us saying we preferred to draft a CB in the first round prior to the draft. I just know you'll never be disappointed anytime the Bengals draft a DE, so I mentioned your name in a friendly banter sort of way. Sorry you weren't around to defend yourself.
