BZBot
How much fight is left in the Bengals? I don't know, but I'm looking forward to finding outSource: http://www.bengalszone.com/article.php?sid=
HairOnFire
“It smells like, like a used diaper...filled with Indian food”That’s about as adequate of a description as can be penned right now. This Bengals team is soft. They are mentally weak and they have been beaten down physically. They have no maturity, as demonstrated by how poorly they have dealt with 2005’s success; and they have no leaders as evidenced by seemingly everyone’s complaining and pointing fingers. This team has too many players more worried about their own personal stats than the team’s win-loss record. The Bengals have no answers, they have no luck, (every call is going against them, and every lose ball is bouncing to the other team), and they have no heart. This team reacts poorly to adversity and they often lay down when someone slaps them in the face. This Bengals team is not very good. There in a nutshell, is everything that has been written about the Bengals from the national media. The above is a passable representation of the chatter on the message boards, the postings on this site, and the coverage locally. I don’t know if I believe it all, but I know you can make an argument for each of the above statements. I know you can also make excuses. These guys are frustrated, there have been injuries, it’s a tougher schedule, blah, blah, blah...Every time they lose, they seem surprised. But at some the Bengals have to quit talking about how good they are and start showing us. Right now all they are doing is giving credence to what all the pundits said about them during the off-season. All that ‘bad character’ talk doesn’t seem as far fetched as it did when they were 3-0. Two points. First, even under Marvin Lewis, the Bengals have always struck me as a team that is easily satisfied with it's performance regardless of if they've actually accomplished anything of note. My personal favorite was when Willie Anderson argued that the Bengals were better than every team they had played so far...ignoring the fact they were currently 0-6. More recently, Marvin's core theme several years ago attempted to hammer home the point that nobody should be satisfied with mediocrity, but the teams that produced back to back 8-8 records seemed pretty happy with themselves, no doubt because they weren't 3-13 or 6-10 squads. Finally a playoff berth resulted, but a quick exit didn't stop the mouthiest Bengals from bragging that this team suddenly ranked amongst the NFL elite. And only last week we heard TJ Housh brag that the Bengals were better than the team that had just beaten them and gained a firm grip on 1st place in the division. As for the issue of bad character, I think Chris Carter said it very well on "Inside the NFL" when he claimed that it didn't factor in why the Bengals were suddenly losing games, but it did factor into the way people attempted to explain the losses. In short, critics don't have to look for the real reasons the Bengals are struggling when the Bengals have left themselves open to easy second quessing by lazy observers. Carter then quickly pointed to an example of actual bad character that might have a real impact on the Bengals play. He pointed to Chad Johnson wearing the Ocho Cinco nameplate, and wondered aloud if you'd ever see that type of behavior allowed on the New England Patriots. Go figure, huh? fattyjay
Just wondering, but has anybody looked at the teams that San Diego has beaten to get to their 6-2 record? I am thinking that we can take advantage of their hurting front seven.
