rwalling
As a Miami University grad, I always cringe when somebody says "Miami of Ohio".That is, until that other Miami (remember, Miami was a University before Florida was a state), pulls a stunt like last night. It had it all: players using helmets as weapons, other goons doing the "Haynesworth" manuever, players getting body slammed, injured players swinging crutches all while helpless coaches showed how little control they had over their team. TOTAL EMBARASSMENT! The inmates are in charge of the asylum. In short, Larry Coker must be fired, the most outrageous of the felons must be suspended from the team and have their scholarships revoked and the gave should be forfeited. Those were not student-athletes by any stretch of the imagination - they were a roaming street gang. The fact that Miami tried to excuse their team's behavior by saying FIU "started it" adds to the embarassment. Can you imagine OSU getting into a fight with BGSU because "they started it"?There is no place for this in college football.
bengalboomer7
The shole entire football culture is out of control. I keep sayign this, but just because these guys can run fast and catch a ball they should be above any criminal charges. The guy using his helmet and the guy kicking people in the face should be charged with assault. PMThor
You forgot about the Miami players literally stomping on FIU players who were down.I can understand some emotions running high in a big game with a rival, but we are talking about the perennial powerhouse Florida International here right? Even in a big rival game, this was an embarassment to college athletics. Miami (of felons not the of Ohio) has now become my least favorite team in college sports. Their entire season should be forfeited. Screw them. They deserve it.
PMThor
Oh yeah, here is the video. Oh My Goodness....Just listen to the announcers throughout the video. It is sickening. Sickening. That guy better lose his job.

Both are starters, probably done for the year.
San Antonio Bengal
I can't believe that one punk announcer. It's one thing to have a battle royal on the field. It's another to have the announcer condoning the violence, but actually openly supporting it. And what was the deal with the Miami players "victory dance" on the sidelines? COngratuations Miami -- you just got a number of your players suspended. What a great thing to celebrate!
Tasher
Look at the bright side...We will be able to draft Brandon Merriweather easily in the 2nd round now!
.coltrane
The stomping and cherring was the dumbest part of the whole damn thing. Punk ass Canes. The kids just don't have any common sense, and at some point some of the blame has to land on Coker's shoulders. I mean, they do s**t like this all the time. Remember when they stomped on Louisville's midfield logo before the game, and got absolutely dialed? Coker needs to take control and make sure that players are held accountable for things like that. San Antonio Bengal
I can't believe that the school and the conference are only going to suspend players for one game. That guy swinging his helmet around should at least be out for the season. And there were some others that should be suspended in the long term as well. At least if nothing else, the punk announcer got fired. Maybe he can apply for Steve Lyons old job.
Kazkal
Hopfully bengals don't draft any U thought the guy swinging the helmet got a year + may get booted from school.
crttylr
As a die hard Canes fan, I have absolutely no problem with what happened, the only thing I did not like was one of our guys swinging the helmet. And the reason I have no problem with this fight, and Im sure all of you saw the highlights on ESPN, of whom has a vendetta against Miami for some reason, so of course they are going to blow it out of proportion. But what everyone fails to realize is, first of all I watched the game start to finish, and FIU was taking their cheap shots on our guys up until that point, and if you watch the field goal that started the fight, our holder was steam rolled by one of their guys. So I ask you guys respectfully watch the footage of the whole game and then post your opinions. Frankly Im tired of the way these guys are playing they needed something like this to light a fire under them for the rest of the season. Say what you want about drafting people from Miami, they have put out more HOFers than any other school, Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, Michael Irvin, Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Jim Kelly, Vinny Testaverde, Bernie Kosar,Jeremy Shockey, Ottis Anderson, Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne, Bennie and Brian Blades, Cortez Kennedy, to name a few, some already are in the HOF, the rest will be there soon, the truth is in the numbers
MacD BengalFan
The sad thing is the Univeristy president wimped out and gave only a 1 game suspension to both Riddick and Merriweather and anyone else identified in the mess. Riddick and Merriweather should have should have been suspended for the season at least. And yes, FIU did start the fight by not only steam rolling the holder, but slamming the kicker to the turf. Plus the announcer mentioned earlier in this thread did get fired. It was Lamar Thomas who graduated in 1993 from Miami of Fla. I don't think he will be doing any games any time soon.Oh, and one last thing. You will never see anything like that from Ohio State. They have more class then that. Or how about the guy that tried to choke out I believe it was a Wisconsin player, but the man in the sweater vest turned the other cheek on that like he did Clarett. My advice to you Dont throw stones if you live in a glass house my friend, OSU isnt full of saints either!!!And you are right Lamar Thomas wont be doing any games anytime soon, but I do think people need to think for them selves and not believe everything seen on ESPN, if anything happens in a football game Miami is involved in ESPN is always like "Well, Miami this.... and the Miami guys then did this...... again watch the game start to finish and see the facts. FIU was taking their liberties on our guys, simply put.....they started it, the Canes finished it!!!!!!!!

I think these guys should be criminally tried. Do stuff like that in the stands and see what happens to you. Start a fight in the parking lot and see where you end up. Charges should be brought up.And not even a few cheap shots can defend what happened.

I will defend the U till my dying day, and I will also say Miami was robbed by the refs in Tempe, but thats besides the point. Thats fine you all go on believing all the crap from ESPN, until you watch the whole game and see for yourselves. And finally I hope Miami revisits the glory days of the 80's and 90's since they are gonna get roasted no matter what they do. I would like to see the Cotton Bowl from some time back when Texas went in there talking their s**t, Miami racks up over 200 yards in penalties and still kicks the s**t out of them 46-3!!!!!! My advice to you Dont throw stones if you live in a glass house my friend, OSU isnt full of saints either!!!You completely missed my point. The incidents you mention are on a personal basis. Clarett destroyed his life and only embarrassed himself by making the choices he did. Plus, he was not a part of the team then this occured. Bobby Carpenter, the player you refer to chocking a Wisconsin player, only embarrassed himself. Plus, he was suspended for that incident. So Tressel did not turn the other cheek when that occurred. On both of these cases, it was an individual that conducted the miss deed, not the entire team. The ENTIRE Miami team was out on the field brawling with FIU and embarrassing themselves. My point again, is you will not see the ENTIRE team Ohio State brawling with the other team, embarrassing themselves.

ArmyBengal
What happened in that game was embarrassment to all of college football and is nothing new for Miami. Trying to compare that to what happened with Clarett is just, well, stupid... The announcer Thomas, or whateer his name was is a complete f*cking idiot for saying the things he said on the radio and is part of the problem that exists. Thug mentality at it's finest. If you defend it, you must be the same way. Plain and simple, there is no room for this sh*t !!!WHODEY !!!
derekshank
If you want to know how universally accepted this is, find me how many times something like this has happened in the history of the sport of football. Trying to defend it is blind homerism and ridiculous. It was an embarrasment, and has nothing to do with the media not liking Miami. It has everything to do with the fact that these idiots shouldn't be permitted to step on the field again this year... but will. Complete Bulls**t. kayaker0678
I am NOT a canes fan repeat NOT a canes fan. I am a Runnin Rebels fan.Anywho I hate the canes and they should be severly punished but so should FIU. They were there too. But the reason ESPN "villified" the canes is because FIU went above and beyond the conferences punishments. The Canes didnt do a darn thing to the players. The ENTIRE Miami team should forfeit the season and lose some scholar ships. So should FIU maybe more severly because they started it. Coker should go Bobby Knight on some guys. Thats right none of this would have happened if Bobby Knight was the coaches on any of the teams
