SkinneymulleT Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I know sacks have been discussed ad infinitem and alot of blame or absolution revolved around the offensive line. And IMO they deserve thier share of the blame, but one question about them not mentioned (or alteast I did not see it) is who made the O-line calls during the game? Steiny or Guy-check and what affect this may have had (i.e. too many guys on middle pick up or simply failing to account for a guy)? I thought that on some of the blitzes it seemed more confusion and late recognition due to inexperience then simply being out played? And what about calling Wilkerson up from the practice squad and giving him a shot....haha JK. Also during the game (and at times last game) noticed that Carson has become really particular about his foot work and place of his feet and balance before the throw rather then moving about the pocket and having to place more weight on his bad knee for a qicker release. He always sets and this seems to have taken about 1/2 second away from his ability to release the ball and IMO added to the sack total. Did anyone else pick up on this or was just an illusion brought on by excessive inebriation combined with extreme stress and anxiety from the game? Quote
jjakq27 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 He does seem a bit more deliberate in his drops and his shuffle-step up in the pcoket but I am not sure if that was the problem yesterday. What I saw was our tackles looking extremely slow at times. Better ball control on Carson's part would help also but I am sure he is aware of that. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I saw a couple of times where Carson looked to have "happy feet", but that might not have been the case exactly. The only reason I mention that, is because he usually is very solid sort of like Brady in the pocket...WHODEY !!! Quote
derekshank Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 The thing that impressed me the most about Palmer was that even though he had been sacked 6 times, and hit numerous more times, at the end of the game he was standing in the pocket, calm, collected, and delivering TD passes. If he got "happy feet" it was because they were getting intense presure on him. The times I saw him attempt to scramble, there was no place for him to scramble to. It wasn't just one guy getting to him... the entire pocket collapsed on him. The thing he needs to do better is hold on to the ball when he going down. All of that said... he can play badly for 3 quarters, but not let it effect him negatively. He went out there and did his job when it mattered most. He's a winner, he's a champion, and he's going to make the Bengals champions. Quote
in9itrust Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I'm a little concerned with the sacks, but at the same time I think if we can handle the Steelers D, then we could take on anyone. As long as we make fewer mistakes than the opponent we'll be fine. I'm glad we won but we had our share of lucky breaks. Quote
SkinneymulleT Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 Not so much happy feet as being overly(is that a word) mechanical about properly setting his feet, again so as to avoid a quick throw that may force more pressure on to his front knee. It just seemed his release was a little slow due to his positioning and at times that made the difference and seems to have contributed to his fumbling, but this will surely improve as he gets more time and strength. Also, there were quite a few blitzes that would bring outside pressure but this is still normaly the job of the center to read and assign coverage and/or adjust accordingly. When the pressure comes from the oustide and you have 3 guys picking up 2 or a gaurd going the wrong way, then outside pressure is still and inside issue. not that his happened on every play(ie. Willies sack) but on some. And their were a few jail breaks in the middle as well as missed blocking assignment on running plays providing significant middle penetration, IMO. No votes for Wilkerson???? Quote
