skyline
Well do you want an actual ipod, or just an mp3 player in general?I'm pretty anti-Mac myself, and have been very happy with a Creative ZenTouch mp3 player. My wife, on the other hand, has the newest 60GB black ipod and is in love with it. Also, I stay away from music downloads these days. I mostly stick to ripping cds. My wife purchases a lot of music via itunes, which she seems to enjoy.
ArmyBengal
I claim stupidity on this one and know VERY little about MP3 players or IPODS, so any information would be good... Thanks...WHODEY !!!
PMThor
I have the 4 gig Ipod Nano with color screen (overkill for me). It holds about 1000 songs.I never wanted an Ipod before, but once I got it, I can't live without it.The Ipod and Itunes are extremely easy to use. It walks you through everything. I copied all of my CDs into my Library (which saves it into my puter), then I pulled them down to my Ipod and set up specific playlists. It is great, whenever I feel like changing my playlists, I just pull them off my Ipod and switch them out on my library, the amount that my Ipod can hold is irrelevant. You just have to change out playlists, which is super easy. Also when I first got my Ipod, I used to buy single songs off of Itunes for what I wanted, never needed to buy CDs for one or two songs, now I could just pay .99 per song without getting a ton of songs I didn't want. Then I discovered Limewire....the sharing site...and I never bought a song again...I can't comment about video stuff though, just have mine for audio. Maybe I will pick up another Ipod someday, but not now...
skyline
If you're not all that knowledgable, then the ipod would probably be the way to go. It's probably the most user friendly due to the itunes software. I still prefer non-mac items, but hey...maybe this is the way you should go.The next step is to decide how much you want to spend, and then get the best one you can for that amount... agreen_112
Ipod's are a little bit harder to get non-itunes (like mp3's from limwire or other free downloads) onto the player. I have a RCA 2GB mp3 player that holds probably like 5-600 songs and all you have to do is drag and drop the songs right onto the device (mp3 player) once its plugged into the computer. I got it for less than $100.

(They've increased this since I had mine)The physical size was a plus and I didn't find the cross over from Windows difficult at all. For both iPods, the menus are easy to understand and navigate (that's one of Apple's claims to fame).Fair warning-they're addictive. Once you have an iPod, you'll wonder how you ever got along without one.

Edogger
I really depends on what you want. I know the Ipods seem more user friendly but I don't care to pay the extra cash for an "Apple Ipod". Instead I went and got two more GB space for the same price. I own the Creative Lab Zen Micro 6GB for $199, but the only drawback is I don't have video capabilities. But I love the Zen. I have about 1400 songs on it and I just let it play quietly while I am at work for atmosphere. And as for places to get songs...you can rip pre-existing CD's that you may have, there is Limewire, and Itunes (Unless you get the Zen, it does not allow ITunes). If you have any other questions, PM me. I just recently helped a friend purchase one.
