How bad is Odell?

Maybe you guys have been talking about it, but I guess I'm not clear on how bad this Odell situation is. What kind of drugs? How bad has he alienated the coaching staff? Who could he be hanging with that is dragging him down? Usually you would hear more things through the grapevine. I guess this is quite a Bengal dirty little secret. Does anyone have more detail?

I don't have any details... but the fact that Marvin is talking about full season solutions, and they aren't letting him practice... combined with the fact that there is a continuing problem with stupid decisions from the players, he seems like the prime candidate to be the guy they make an example out of. Talk about a fall from grace.

Speaking of a fall from grace... anybody hear the latest on Maurice Clarett? Why the hell was he wearing a bullet proof vest? Sounds to me like he was on his way somewhere, and the police got lucky to happen to pull him over. This guy is worse than Henry... and it's not that close.

I think Clarett has seriously lost his mind. Not in a figurative sense, but literally. The guy needs anti-wannabe gangbanger medication....

Word has it that Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis sat Odell down and asked him straight up to be truthful only later to find out he lied to them to their face. I think this has everything to do with that, if that "word" was true, and not the drug he used.

Remember, Duane Clemons last year was in the same situation (four game suspension), but not given the same team-forced punishment.

It's something fishy, I can tell you that. I'd bet on something like that

i've heard a few places that odell has had an addiction to crystal meth. since high school...

that's a pretty s**tty drug to be hooked on, especially in such a physically demanding sport. not sure if it's true, but i've heard it a few times...

no way this is true, meth causes your immune system to weaken considerably...seeing as how he's putting his body through a lot already being a pro-athlete I'm not sure this could even be possible

3 failed drug test's in 1 year seems insane. The majority of weed smokers I know could resist if they had to. I watch that show intervention and this seems like the type of behavior consistent with a meth-head. Lewis won't let him practice. The coaches really seem to bash him with a tone that seems very fed up. I hope not, but I don't think it's a light drug. He must have some real problems.

I just don't buy the big addict excuse. He clearly has a big time problem with authority. The kind that got him suspended for 3 games when he was at Georgia. The kind that got him suspended for a game last year. The kind that has gotten him suspended for the first 4 games this year.

He just doesn't want to comply with the rules... and even though Henry might be the greater menace to society, I'm starting to believe that Odell is the greater menace to this team. I think the reason he's not practicing with the team, and the reason Marvin seems to be moving ahead without him, is because we don't need anyone on this team with the initials T.O. or O.T.

If you fight the authority of the police in your free time, you'll end up in jail, but if you fight the authority of the coaching staff and the NFL, you'll end up working at McDonalds. Odell... even with all his potential, is no exception. A cancer in the locker-room has no place on this team.

This may or may not really be the issue... but that's how it looks to me with the little information we have given to us.

mb it was performance enhancing drugs this time. but he has failed 3 drug tests...no matter the type, he has a problem. 1 more incidence and he gets a season. at this point hes a liability until he proves he has kicked his habit for good.

Sorry fellas I don't know quite what is going on with OThurman, I've been going to school to get my LPN license and haven't really had the time to keep up with the news, so I take it that OThurman still is not practicing with the team, and some of you heard he has an addiction to crystal-meth, wow :o I thought that he was on the wacky tabacky....

He's with the team working out with the strength and conditioning team. They are treating it like he's recovering from a major injury -- which to my knowledge, hasn't been made public.
Thanxx...

I find the meth thing to be incredibly shaky. He doesn't fit the profile of a meth user. He's from rural GA, and he had a bit of a rough past in HS and at UGA. I think that marijuana or 'roids are a bit more likely, though I don't want to think that he is just a specimen of science....

I will repeat what I have said a few times before, that I heard that Odel had done a "hard drug" and that is the problem is and I cant think of a reason for Marvin to keep him out of practice if he is going to be playing after his 4 game suspension enless he he will be out for the year.

Maybe Marvin is sending him a message.

If Odel was on crack or Meth, there is about a 10%chance of him playing again.

The only way people quit those 2 drugs is if they are either dead or in jail from it.

from the pictures i have seen he is not on crack or meth . if he was he would be about 125 pounds and he would also look really rough have bad skin chapped and burnt lips missing teeth . he's on roids or is smoking weed . then add that he lied to the face of the owners and coaches . then mike brown wanting to get brooks in the supplemental draft makes you wonder if o'dell is going to be around very long. i hope they can get it straightened out o'dell is still one hell of a linebacker .

 OK , since I'm the only Bengal fan that lives next to and works with O'Dell Thurmans' relatives I'll tell you what the problem is.

He's a damn Georgia BOY!!!! And If anyone knows Georgia Boys don't give up weed !! He's fine during the season, but during the offseason ,( which is when he's tested positive ) he hangs around with those fools from Monticello and Madison GA.

- The Suspension came from the fact that he didn't test when he was supposed to. To the League, that's the same as being doped up. Even if he was clean ( Which he wasn't because his cousin who I work with assisted him with his weed dealings) you still have to test once you're on the League imposed players with alcohol and drug related watchlist.

;)

I watched the NFL Yearbook for the Bengals on ESPN this afternoon. They special was pretty cool, and was the perfect medicine to get you excited about the season starting.

However... the special highlighted Odell as much if not more than anyone else on the team. Every time I saw him, I just got the feeling that it was the last time we'd see him play for the Bengals.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong... but I really don't expect to see him at all this season, and will be pleasantly surprised if we see him play next year. At this point it's just a feeling, but he really doesn't seem to observe any of the demands made on him by the coaching staff.

Marvin seems willing to accept you back if you make stupid mistakes with the law... but he can't allow the team to see a guy undermine his authority and still expect anyone to continue to listen to him.

I think it is. I've noticed where the coaching staff has made it a point(Hobson said it, ESPN said it) to tell everyone that while he did play well, he was constantly out of position. I don't know whether they'll cut him or not, but I think the writing's on the wall.
