redsbengalsbucks
Hard to believe that the druken, foul-mouthed, violent fans were not regulars, but people wearing Black and Urine!I like that description of Pitts colors so much Duus, I had to use it here. SkinneymulleT
Talk about big brother, this is not needed. Very seldom are there issues with fans, and all a person has to do is tell an usher who can handle it or get the police to but now we will have every whiner and teatotaler in the place accusing everyone else of one thing or the other trying turn a football game (which by tradition is a place where people drink) into a family event and would someone think of the children argument...and I have little pity for a woman who has season tickets but her son has never been to a game and then complains that he was able to go to a game that I could not and now he is "mared for life" someone call the lawyer. redsbengalsbucks
There is no need for overindulging alcohol at a sporting event to have fun.If you have to get slobbering drunk while watching the game stay home and dont ruin it for other people. This rule is not about the average fan that has a few and does not cause problems. It is about the fans that act like idiots after a few to many. I witnessed this in Detroit last season at the AFCN division clinching win. After the game in my hotel there was this idiot Bengal fan getting in every Lions fan face he could find and yelling WHO-DEY. When I told him to show some class he slurred F-you and went about being an ass. I had never been embarrassed to be a Bengals fan for 29 years untill that moment. After all the failings that I have witnessed the Bengals organization struggle through it was painful to watch a fellow Bengals fan rub it into these Lions fans as if he was a Browns/Steelers fan. I apologized to the nearest Lions fan to me and wished him better for next season. All he said was "there is always a few who drink to much". Why should normal upstanding fans have to put up with this? Why is it that it is expected?Rant over

SkinneymulleT
Nothing in my response defends drunks, just drinking. You can use the same argument for the pat down searches, "uh, if its not a problem why are they doing it", but a federal judge agreed there was no problem only over reaching and unreasonable invasion of privacy... and secondly you convict and condem every person who has an idiot with a cell phone dials a number called the "jerk". Ooh that's offensive and to think my child may hear someone say jerk and then he will be compelled to Jer! and be mared for life. Sounds like stalinist russia. Is stalin mayor now? HairOnFire
Being a left-coaster I'm not able to attend very many Bengal games. In fact, the last one I attended was against Baltimore several years ago. Long story short, there were two guys sitting in the row behind us who were staggering drunk even before the game began. My wife got in their faces a couple of times, which worked for a minute or two, but immediately after halftime one of them threw up on himself, his seat, and my wifes shoes. Making matters much worse, the upchuck from the first guy caused the second one to hurl about 5 minutes later as he was trying to clean up the first guys mess with empty cups and napkins. All of this prompted my wife to look in my direction as she loudly pleaded.... "Please, punch 'em in the face!" I seriously considered it, but it became clear that drunk guy #2 was intent on getting drunk guy #1 home, to his car, or just safely away from my wife and her large husband. And away they went. All things considered, a 1-800-JERKOFF phone number might have been a good thing to have.

PMThor
Big Brother? Are you guys serious? The cameras were already there, and they were already watching the fans before this number came out.Like the email said, all it will do is focus a camera on the section, then the security will deem whether or not someone should be dispatched to deal with the problem. It's not going to change a thing. First couple of games it may get inundated (sp) with people calling. But now with the number, the ushers will be freed up to deal with actual "real" events, and not some alleged slight that fans feel has been done towards them.I think it is proactive and shows that the Bengals are serious about having respectful and good fans, ones who are good hosts to other fans. I have no problem with it at all. The cameras were already watching us anyway, now the stadium crew is just using another tool in fighting idiots. Sox
I look at it this way.At least they'll have actual video evidence as a reason to kick somebody out,as opposed to a he said/she said when someone runs to security.
SkinneymulleT
Thats where it starts, but where does it end? Random breathalizer tests? Good fan certification program? PMThor
I think you are overreacting. The Bengals are simply getting it on record that they are going to deal with idiots quickly. They are getting in step basically with a majority of other NFL teams to be honest. There have been mini riots at other sporting events all over the world. What the Bengals are doing is just trying to cover their azz. Since they have it in their power to make it safer for us all, and gives us as fans a chance to actually make it safer and more fan friendly for everyone, then they are just using another tool in that aspect. It is no big deal. The very fact that so many people sit back and say this is needed blah blah crap is a sad barometer of society as a whole today. Wake up America! Find respect for yourself and others! What are you talking about? How is it a bad reflection of society that people would like to enjoy a more civilized environment at games? And talking of respect, those people causing the problems in the first place are the ones that need a lesson in respect...not those that take issue with it.I'm not saying that drinking at games is a bad thing, because I always have a few beers when I go to games, but you can't deny that there are inappropriate di*ks at games which can make it a less pleasant experience. People should know their limits, but since many don't, this jerk line will be another way for security to monitor the crowd. And I'll be happy to call it on an obnoxious fan, especially if that fan happens to be wearing a pissburgh jersey. Now I agree that there are drawbacks, since some people will abuse this line and may call it on people who are not causing problems. And I would hate to think I shelled out the dough for a game, only to get kicked out without cause. Hopefully, security will verify that the accused are committing offenses first with their video. Kirkendall
And I would hate to think I shelled out the dough for a game, only to get kicked out without cause. You'll be fine as long as you don't give them a reason to. All this is is a phone number to make security aware of a certain group of people.. AT WORST (best for us), is that person is kicked out.CORNY ALERTI think it's only fair that if we expect "character" out of our players, the fans should do the same.END CORNY ALERTOh... and... Dan2330
Ok, let's define un-ruly behaivor so that everyone is clear and does not get kicked out for the wrong reason. Un-ruly IMHO would be:- Tossing a keg onto the field (I mean come on the bottles are plastic, they don't really hurt)- Releasing killer snakes in the stadium (never know what people will think of after they see 'Snakes on a Plane')- Taking a terrible towel and choking a Steeler fan to death with it (well you get a Ohio Judge in a good mood and he might drop this down to manslaughter vs. murder charge)- Smack, kick to the groin, raking the face, smashing a cell phone over the head of another fan near you (only if done in that order)And of course:- Not wearing your helmet when riding your motocrycle to the game if you are parking in the stadium controlled lotsMy advice is good luck getting this program to work, first and formost you would have to have some damn good evidence that a person was indeed misbeahaving and that comes from video. Well a lot of times what is the video going to show? Them jumping up and down, that could be them cheering. Video is not going to pick up the F bombs they might be dropping so security would have to get close enough to hear them. One of the movie chains just starting doing something similar where they give out a few pager type devices to loyal customers who can press a button if someone in the theatre is getting unruly and a Manager can respond. It's a shame when things have to come down to this, I see this possibly leading to more problems, lets say security decides not to kick someone out, you know damn well they are going to be eyeballing the person that called on their cell phone. Is security really going to 'hang around' that area to make sure all is ok for the remainder of the game? I saw an incident like this at a rock concert before and the minute security left the area the person who called them over got the living crap kicked out of him by the person who security did nothing about. And here is the big thing to consider, I have tried using my cell phone before during the game- no dice on them being able to hear me or me being able to hear the person I was calling. I guess that it's ok to not want bad fans in the stadium, but very wrong to try and do anything about it. I agree, get a friggin grip people. It's not like they are going to kick everybody out of the stadium because they drop the "F" bomb a couple of times. I went to the home game against the Browns last year and there was a drunk guy in front of me that threw up on the guy in front of him and then proceeded to pass out. His buddies had to go get security and carry him out. Really pretty sad that you have to get that messed up at a game. Hey I like to drink and enjoy the game but damn. This was like 1/2 way into the first quarter.
