cincy9275
ben is a decent q/b he has a good winning percentage and a superbowl . he is not a great passer the passing offense of the steelers is very basic and very simple . most of ben's success is that he is on a well rounded team . i don't believe that if he was on another team he would be mentioned as much as a top qb , but because of his win % you have to put him in the top ten but no way is he number 2 or even in the top 5 . i think brady and manning are the top two qb's with carson just behind . they have played longer and have done it year in and year out , but carson is on there level and if he keeps playing on that level in the next year or so he probably will be the top qb in the game . SkinneymulleT
how good would the bengals be with ben? and the steeler with carson?
redsbengalsbucks
how good would the bengals be with ben? and the steeler with carson?I think the answer to that is simpleThe Bengals with Ben would be a 500 ball club, struggling to get to the next level. The Steelers with Carson would be one of my worst nightmares, a solid all around team. Good defense, above average run game and a QB that can win in a shootout.Hopefully the Bengals defense improves enough to allow Carson to not have to win every game with his arm. If Ben was put in this situation I dont think he would respond as well.
stilldiesel
Palmer and Roethlisberger are both great QB's. If you don't think they are both top 4 or 5 in the NFL you are crazy or biased one way or the other.Palmer sat and learned for a year, played decent in his 2nd year, and then had a GREAT 3rd season.Roethlisbeger had the best first 2 years for any QB ever. 98 QB rating, 27-4 record with a SB ring, how can you knock him.Palmer has a better arm than any QB in the world, Roethlisberger has a knack for making something out of nothing and winning in the clutch. The team that wins more will be the team with the better D and run game, and for the past 3 years that has been Pitt. I don't understand why everyone on both sides feels the need to knock the other team's QB. They are both GREAT and could have one of the best QB rivalries ever if they stay healthy.I totally agree TDB!!
duus
I totally agree TDB!! I absolutely agree as well. But tell me, why is it that of the some hundred or so Steeler fans in Pittsburgh that I have had this conversation with (including EVERY dialogue I have heard on t.v. and radio locally), they are absolutely, 100% convinced that Benji is, as they say, "the better all-around quarterback"? Why in my experience, without exception, are these locals convinced that Palmer is just a scared version of a run-and-shoot QB? I have gotten into more frustrating useless conversations with folks that simply will not admit that both of these guys are very good QBs. Of course, I will argue that Carson is better (using the "which team would be better with the others QB" argument), but they always come back with the opposite insisting that Carson is over-rated and "has no guts", etc. Same old story from this town and its fans. Oddly, you seem to come around with a sane comment from time to time. You scare me. You sure are not what I see on a daily basis inside this city. Truth hurts. I've lived near Annapolis, Maryland my whole life and have been a life-long Steeler fan. (much to my Raven loving family's chagrin) I am a mod at Stillers.com and I enjoy opposing fans to come and spout off as much as they would like. I only move threads if they are OBVIOUSLY trolling. An example would be if I posted 'Anthony Wright should just bust up Carson's other knee because he is obviously the better QB.' Opposing fans have posted stuff like that about Maddox and Ben just to get a reaction. We may be on crack at Stillers.com but we don't censor posts. I enjoy coming to this board and the Ravens board so I encourage fans of other teams to come over to ours. BTW, there is another Bengals board (I think called Bengalsown or something) that immediately banned me and I have been at least this polite. To me those guys are clowns because they want absolutely no banter between fans on their board.

I see that my point continues to be proven that the only 'somewhat sane' Steeler fans exist outside of the city of Pittsburgh. Not a one inside this city. Fact. They are a bunch of obnoxious, egotistical, self-centered, blind to anything not wearing black-n-urine punks. The only few that seem to be able to hold a logical, reasonable dialogue live outside the city, and most of those have never actually even lived in or around Pittsburgh. Man, I just simply cannot imagine being part of a fanbase where that is the way it is. Surely, Cincy has its own problems, but I am yet to find anyone from another city/fanbase who has found the fans that live in/around Cincinnati to be unbearable. Yet, I am not alone in this assessment of Pittsburgh fans. This opinion stretches from coast to coast. Even those that I call friends (and even close friends) know that 'other teams fans' (like myself) think they are absolute jerks when it comes to football conversations. It's universal. This truth seems very solid to me.

This truth seems very solid to me.This phenomen does exist outside Pissburgh. I live in Cleveland, and every Sunday at the bars it seems like they are full of obnoxious Steeler fans, no matter which one you go to. There are the rare intelligent ones who can hold a good football conversation, but they are few and far between. Maybe this is just due to the proximity to Pittsburgh though. As far as the topic at hand, no rational person would say Ben is the best QB in the nfl, at least not now. He may get better with time, and has had a phenomenal start to his career. But as others have pointed out, at least Brady and Manning would have to be rated higher than both Ben and Carson right now, if only becasue they have proven their consistency. As a homer myself, I think Palmer, if healthy, is the # 3 QB already, and with another year or two, he will be the best in the nfl without question. But that doesn't mean Ben won't also improve and be a great QB in the league.
