HairOnFire
The point is, no one really knew if Rudi was able to do it over the course of the entire season. He has obviously shown that he is more than capable, and hindsight is 20/20... but I remember when the pick was made being a bit relieved, because I wasn't 100% confident yet in Rudi's long term value. That argument leaves me cold. Whatever concerns you may have had about Rudi's ability to do it over the course of a full season aren't eliminated with the selection of a rookie RB who hadn't proven a thing. After all, after burning that 1st round pick the rookie may not be durable enough to........err.......well, I don't need to finish that thought, do I? If Rudi wasn't the kind of back who could carry the load for the whole season, then the logic would be to have another very talented back to share the load. Not merely as a 3rd down back... but a guy who could keep Rudi fresh. It is the way a lot of teams are going so that their RB's don't wear out.As I said, the Perry pick doesn't appear to have been necessary for that, but we didn't know that at the time. How much would we be complaining about letting Dillon go when we didn't have a reliable RB to carry the load if it had gone the other way, and we didn't select a RB. In essence I think we are in agreement, but I am a bit more understanding of the war room logic for the selection than you choose to be. kingwilly
Cperry was an average pick..Hindsight says the others around him haven't exactly shined...and Perry hasn't been horrible, save the durability question mark.Given the RB situation at the time, it was about the third best option...LB or D-line would have been the direction I would have went...Perry was a luxury pick...plus with FA's at the time, we could have gone another direction...It was not a perfect pick...but not a bust.
