Levi will be paid 50-60 million for an extension. Steiny will command 30-40 million, Willie the same. Not enough wiggle room in the salary cap for all of them. Then there is JSmith who will probably command 25-30 million. I think Levi is a must sign player to the point of pain. Carson needs him now that he is a gimpy knee QB next year. I think Stacy and Wilkerson offer promising replacements at RT and LG. The Bengals do have some depth on the Oline so no need to max out on the salary cap for the next 3 or 4 years. Hobson has never said all the Oline can be re-signed nor that JSmith must be re-signed. He has always said some will play elsewhere in 2007. KiLBurn
"REALITY BREAK"Gentlemen. If you have not yet realized this, there is this thing called a "salary cap" that our team must comply with. We only have so many dollars to spread around between our offense and defense. If we spend 80+ percent of this money on Carson, Chad, TJ, Rudi, Perry, Levi, Steinbach, Willie, etc. then how in the hell do you expect us to improve our defense? The reality is, we need to either do some long term deals (OL) or let some good players hit the market. We can't afford to pay every player as a top 10 player. When Marvin says that he intends to cycle through his players, believe him. He can't pull money out of his ass. I love the way Marvin is building this team. He drafts with an eye on who may be leaving due to FA the following year and uses it as leverage/insurance against it happening. You have to have some "bargain" players on your team or you will not be able to field a quality team on a regular basis.

I wouldn't see that as a greater miracle than turning the Bengals franchise around... and frankly with his new coaching contract he gets every year, he probably can afford to use money as toilet paper, making the trick that much less astounding.... but you're right on with the salary cap issue. turningpoint
I think we should offer Willie Andersons Big Dumbass, a huge back loaded 5 year contract then just cut his ass heading into the last 2 years...of course offering him a small signing bonus that's just prorated over 3 years, so we don;t take a cap hit either.
