walzav29
Should the Bengals take a gamble on someone who may be great, that Cromateire (whatever) the corner out of FSU who had the knee injury. With their first pick? He has the type of size that Marv and Chuack love for a corner and he seems like he has a chance to be 1st round worthy. All ofthe other guys seem like there is another guy with the same type of talen in the 2nd. Pope and the TE from Texas, Hali and the guy from Boston College, Watson and Wright. The question is do you gamble your first rounder on potential or a sure thing? Sure in the sense of healthy knees. Any thought?
benglsdrumr
I would gamble on him. He's a big corner and had a great 40-time. Unless of course, Broderick Bunkley somehow falls into our hands....eh! maybe i'd still gamble on cromartie or we could just put Chad at corner! The_Next_Big_Thing
In Marvin We Trust. In the Scouting Department we Trust.I don't care WHO we take at this point. These guys know what they are doing.
schweinhart
I'm not sure there will be such a thing as a sure thing at #24, healthy knees or not...Except for maybe Nick Mangold.
ArmyBengal
I would gamble on him as well due to the fact there are other players that may be impact as well, but are no more a sure thing than any other player. There is no such thing as a "sure thing"...WHODEY !!!
Spor_tees
Why do some threads about draft picks get moved whereas this one isn't? I started a thread a couple days ago about guys the Bengals were looking at titled "Boom or Bust?" and it was moved in 5 minutes...this one is along the same lines and it doesn't get moved... I for one only come to this board on this site and I hate when threads get moved. Bengals talk is Bengals talk...whether it is about someone the Bengals might draft or someone the Bengals already have...maybe someone can enlighten me a bit. The_Next_Big_Thing
If there is a defensive tackle or defensive end worth the #1 pick available, we should go there. If not, we should look at the grades for the best tight ends and safeties available and see if they are worth a #1 pick.If none of these positions are there, only then should we be looking at cornerbacks. bengalboomer7
See I have it the other wayDT first,. then look at CB, then look at DE, and only then, after those options have been exhausted, would I start looking at a tight end. HairOnFire
And I have it yet another way. I'd look first at CB and DE. I'd look next at TE, LB, and OL. Next comes DT and SS. As for Cromartie, my biggest concern isn't his knee, as I'm sure that will be checked out thoroughly. My biggest reservation concerns his lack of experience and how it would impact his ability to spot start early if needed.

He will be able to get reps in as a nickle and dime back early on. Tory still has some juice left, and Ratliff is adequate in the short-term if there is an injury. Cromartie could be one of the better corners in the league, so I would say if his knee is in good shape, to take the risk on him. He has the talent, so that next year he and O'neil would be the best CB tandem in the NFL. Two shut-down corners is never a bad thing. ArmyBengal
Ok, I'll play this game... I'll go with...DE, CB then DT, SS, then TE, LB, OLClose to Hair, but a little rearranged...WHODEY !!!
BengalPappaw
I believe that the Bengals will check out guys like Cromartie and Allen to insure that they are ready to play in the NFL.A few years ago there was an OT that had had two knee operations and there was considerable concern about his health. However, when the coach rushed the OT to check him out, the OT easily knocked the coach on his a$$. As the story goes, Forrest Gregg then decided to draft Athony Munoz. [before someone leaps to the wrong conclusion -- I am NOT saying that Cromartie or Allen are future all-pros. I just suggesting that the Bengals will heck out players before we draft.]I'm hoping that the Bengals are sending their coaches to test all possible 1st round draft picks that might have an injury history.IMO if the Bengals draft Cromartie or Allen, the Bengals have checked them out and decided that they are ready.
