The Joker D, The real ?

Spain

Recommended Posts

Ok guys , I was thinking about this D, I have came to a couple of ?s.

Who will be the Joker? Till now it was Pollaks spot now it might! Be arrington. The joker is the tweener that changes you from a 3-4 to a 4-3, depending on if you want to lay run our pass. Marvin has always told Arrington he could rush with a hand in the ground. Arrington had his best year playing that position. Does this mean Pollak drops into coverage when we play the 4-3 part? If Marvin is true to his word about the New England type D Who shuffles where? Any help apreciated!!!!!

3-4 in pass situations with the small, fast ends and Thornton in the middle (or whoever we draft if he is a penetrator).

then you have Arrington, Simmons, Thurman, Pollack or some situations with Miller/Johnson/Wilkins

or you have a 3-3 in a nickel package...

OR you have a 3-2 or 2-3 or even a 2-2 with certain dime coverages in 3rd and very long!

<_<

Tasher dont listen to them! They are chalenged. The Joker D is coming wether they like it or not. If Arrington signs or not. Thats a Marvin D. The real ? is can we pay Arrington and secure the future(Bach, Levi) Thats a tight squeeze, but Katie can work magic! Give her , her props. You think this has all been Marvin lewis! She hired Marvin remeber that!

Tasher by the way, great post. This Joker if Marvins word is true. Anyone can pass rush at any time. Thats all the small fast LBS ,This guy has been plaining this for years. WE are going to see a marvin lewis D. Its going to be funky too.

Here you go Spain...

The Bengals officially signed Adams to a three-year deal Monday and that unofficially should end the buzz about the Bengals switching to a 3-4 since Adams has been a formidable 4-3 tackle for both Lewis and Bresnahan. But Bresnahan said the Bengals haven’t made up their minds yet, and as fellow tackle Bryan Robinson said, “You bring in a guy like Sam, it lets you do a bunch of different things.”

The first thing it does is make the Bengals stouter than they’ve ever been in the middle since Lewis arrived as head coach in 2003 and he and Bresnahan look to revive a defense that finished 28th in the league last season.

Another thing it does is make a guy like left end Justin Smith as dangerous as he’s ever been in his six-year career because Adams adds to the rotation as well as draws double teams. Like Bresnahan, Smith isn’t looking at his bulk.

Guys, this just in, we could trade all of our day two draft picks for Simeon Rice! I know it's not really likely to happen, and he hasn't shown up in Cincinnati either, but if there's still all this talk of signing Arrington, why not look at other potentially bogus signings to see who would be our Joker in the Joker D we aren't running yet. I mean we are all stoned like Spain, right?

GET OVER IT! Until Arrington actually sets foot in Cincinnati, don't expect him to sign.

Arrington might or migh not sign here, but the thing that interest me most is how Marvin runs his D. Who lines up where? If a player doesnt sign Marvin will continue on. WEmight be looking at a LB in the draft. Remeber Sharper. He left us hanging and we took two LBs. My best guess is that Simmons goes back to the middle.

Dude your challenged. You have no ability to think hypothetically. You are a backwords thinker, which means your thick as concrete. We have been building this D from day one. Now Marvin is finnishing up the project. OH well this is probably to complicated to you.

You guys are missing the real ?, if we were a 4-3 normal why are we looking at Arrington. We might have the best LBs in the leauge next year. Why would we even look at vArrington if we didnt need that type of tweener. If Arrington passes on us I bet we draft A LB in that mold.

Talk about challenged.

1. Landon was named starting MLB before Odell came along. If an OLB needs to move inside it will be him.

2. We will probably draft an LB regardless of what happens with Arrington or your fantasies of 3-4. Why? Because Marvin is always looking for good ones. He's drafted 5 LB's in 3 years.

(And exactly what does Sharper have to do with Pollack and Odell getting drafted in 2005? Was he also responsible for Landon and Caleb getting drafted in 2004? For somebody who preaches BPA ad nauseum, you draw some very strange conclusions about Marvin's draft strategies.)

3. Why would Marvin look at LaVar if he's not switching to 3-4? Because he thinks LaVar is a good player. Who can play in a 4-3. There is NO cause-effect relationship between LaVar and the 3-4.

Spain, you really shouldn't talk about things being too complicated until you are capable of understanding things yourself. Condescension does not become you.

How can you guys go this long without bringing this up? This thread was started by Spain and no one thought of this yet!?!? Damn I thought there were some other oldies on here

Some people call me the space cowboy

, yeah Some call me the gangster of love Some people call me Maurice

Cause I speak of the pompatus of love People talk about me, baby

Say I'm doin' you wrong,

doin' you wrong

Well, don't you worry baby

Don't worry Cause I'm right here,

right here, right here,

right here at home

Cause I'm a picker

I'm a grinner

I'm a lover

And I'm a sinner

I play my music in the sun

I'm a joker

I'm a smoker

I'm a midnight toker

I sure don't wanna hurt no one

:lol::sure::P

Just my two cents on this...After reading the Bengals current cap status which appears to be about 4 million left in free agency, I'm guessing we don't sign Arrington unless we cut Thorton and about 2 more players to free up the cap space. We are going to use that 4 Million to extend some O-lineman or save it until after the draft when other players start to get cut.

:drunk:

Why would Marvin consider Arrington you ask Spain ???

Well, like already stated, Marvin thinks he can play and would be a benefit to us in our BASE 4-3 set. The same set that made Arrington a pro bowler of all things. Will we look at a LB in the draft ?? Maybe, but it won't be day one (I'll make a wager on that) and we might not at all. You say we are missing the real question, however, I believe you are missing the point !!!

WHODEY !!!

I don't think the buy out was stupid one bit... He gave up 4 million, but you know some team will give him a much better deal than anything Washington was going to offer.

I would assume we got in on your called "sweepstakes" for Arrington because he is viewed as a good player, like they would for any player they thought would be an ugrade to the team. This inquiring of a particular player does not however, indicate any type of shift in your base defense. Can it in the future ?? Sure, but one person is not going to allow this shift and we don't have the players to run 3-4 as a base.

WHODEY !!!

Marvin's been talking about using athletic, versatile defenders since he got here. It would hardly be earth-shattering news if he picks another athletic, versatile defender.

From April 2005

"There's lots of ways to be creative," Bresnahan said. "There's depth there. There's versatility there.

"I've always been a believer in being multiple in your look and keeping it simple, where guys don't have to learn too much. Ask any offensive coach in the league, and they'll tell you that the ability of the 4-3-slash-3-4 team, or the 3-4-slash-4-3 team is a real hassle. When we had our best success in Oakland, we did a little bit of both. Marvin did a little bit of both in Baltimore."

I predict that Marvin will draft between 5 and 7 players this year. Both offensive and defensive. If this comes true, I'm a genius and you're challenged.

You just have to be able to sift through the ebonics. :P From the way I interpet him, I like it.

I HOPE SPAIN means marvin wants to be more versatile on the field, and to be able to put guys on the field that can line up a bunch of different ways. (Kinda like how you'll see the Pats line up with two Dlineman)

To be able to keep teams guessing even more
