cover2
One of the small school players to keep an eye on in the next few months is wide receiver Andy Wellendorf from The College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio). Wellendorf is 6-5, 217 pounds with a 37-inch vertical leap. In the last two seasons, he scored 28 of the 48 career touchdowns that he amassed in his college career. In 2004, Wellendorf had a season many receivers only dream of as he hauled in 58 passes for 1,101 yards and 16 touchdowns. He averaged over 100 yards per game receiving that season and was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Heartland Conference. Because of his size and strength, Wellendorf is hard to jam at the line of scrimmage and obviously has a distinct advantage when it comes to jump balls. While being a solid possession receiver, he is also deceptively fast (4.56 in the 40) and can separate from defenders. He also shows no fear when it comes blocking. Wellendorf may not be from a Division 1-A program, but his statistics and physical attributes speak for themselves and he has to be considered one of the bigger diamonds in the rough at this point. --J J Pesavento
Whur CHad At?
He would be a good FA pick up if we happen to loose Walter to the Texans. Doubt he will be drafted, but you never know.I would like to see how this guy would fare agasint a Division I school. All of this sounds good and all, but it would be too big of a risk to use a draft pick on. Like I said, he would be a decent FA pickup. schweinhart
Hey, good luck to him. Some great receivers have crawled out of the small school woodwork -- Jerry Rice, Rod Smith and Wayne Chrebet to name a few. Not saying that's where he's at but if he or his agent get enough tape of him playing out, somebody might bite like they did with Joe Horn after he came out of nowhere and went off in the arena league. The_Next_Big_Thing
He's good, I'll give you that, but Mt. St. Joes will get him second day looks at best.
